Seth Marsh Obituary

Marsh, Seth Kaiser
January 31, 1961 - June 11, 2010
This wasn't just a man. This was a beautiful life force. Seth was born in Milwaukee, and although he moved to Beverly Hills when he was a toddler, he never stopped loving the Green Bay Packers.

The list of what he loved is voluminous, beginning with his adoring wife Allison, his incredible children Jordan and Olivia, his wonderful little sister Tracy, brother-in-law and friend Michael Hoffman and their beautiful children Raya and Simon. His devoted in-laws Joan and Norm and brother-in-law Gary considered him an essential family member, as most who met him would. Predeceased by his mother and father, Sy and Molly Marsh, for whom he walked on water.

Seth graduated from BHHS in 1979, then attended Cal State Northridge where he starred on the volleyball team and studied business. He also played on the USA Volleyball team in the 1981 Maccabiah games in Israel. After college he went on to DJ, produce his own music, and opened up many successful nightclubs including the legendary Boss Club. He went on to produce several successful exercise videos, and his love of sports eventually landed him in the sports memorabilia business, where he was an executive for Bang the Gavel.

As many passions as Seth had, nothing came close to his love for his family. He met his soul mate, Allison, in 1988, and they married four years later. He was most alive with his family. They truly loved each other's company. He was an incomparable father and best friend to both Jordan and Olivia and could not have been more proud of them. Jordan is an extraordinary child who excels in anything he touches: academics, athletics and music, but his father was most proud of him because he is becoming a man of integrity, warmth, intelligence and passion. Olivia was his daddy's girl, and every day of the quickly blossoming miracle of her life force was a source of supreme joy for Seth. He loved seeing her play soccer, piano, dance, and most of all, just hanging out on the couch and enjoying each other.

Words cannot accurately capture what this man has meant to his community. There is not a soul who met him who was not taken with him. In the words of Bruce Springsteen, we "wished we could have known, we wished we could have called you just to say goodbye." He passed unexpectedly on Friday, June 11. He will be forever missed by all that knew him, but never be forgotten!

Services will be held on Friday, June 18, 2010, 12 pm at Mount Sinai Hollywood Hills, 5950 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90068 (800) 600-0076. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Jordan Marsh & Olivia Marsh Educational Trust.

I thought of you today Seth probably because Bruce was on the Tonys last night and I realized its the anniversary of your untimely passing. You brought us joy those few years at the Boss Club and many of us are still friends. Belated condolences to your family.

I was just thinking about you, Seth. You and David, every time I take out the Boss Club t-shirt. Actually, it is the one you gave me for the 15th anniversary. We shared some youth together, but I am glad to see that you are still loved by so many, and that your spirit seems to live on with those you touched. Thanks for being a friend.

I was just telling my son about Seth and the Boss Night he hosted back in the 80's and how successful it was so I though I would google him to see what he was up to these days. I am devastated to hear that he has passed. I was a team mate of his at CSUN in 79-80, my senior year and his freshman year. He was so charismatic and fun-loving. He took the team by storm and I thought the world some day. What a loss, my condolences to his family and friends.

Its been over a year since your passing, but you just popped into my head.... Remembering all the great times together at BHHS with Seth, Evan and Jonna. Many memories. My children lost their Dad too.... He will always be in your hearts.

i'm not sure who will read this, but here's my share.

i was introduced to seth three different times. the first time was at the boss club waaaay back in the day in la. the second time was through a friend who played basketball with seth at balboa park. the third time was during the cedars sinai sports spectacular.

it wasn't til the cedars meet that we figured out that we had crossed paths on and off for around twenty plus years.

it didn't matter. seth made an instant impression and would engage you in a heartbeat. he was a character and a passionate human being.

i'm saying one, thinking the good thought for seth and his family.

"Now there's a beautiful river in the valley ahead
There 'neath the oak's bough soon we will be wed
Should we lose each other in the shadow of the evening trees
I'll wait for you
And should I fall behind
Wait for me"

I knew Seth briefly at the time of the Boss Club when we partnered with him in opening a Boss Club in NYC. Seth was such an uplifting and charismatic guy. He also was a real gentleman. I remember how he especially loved Springteen's acoustic Seeds from the Bridge School benefit. My condolences to his family. I can imagine what a great Dad he was.

I still remember me and my wife bumping into you in Washington DC after a volleyball tournament. You gave us your place in the taxi line so we wouldn’t miss our flight. How cool! That was Seth. To the family of a fellow sports enthusiast, he touched many hearts. We are sorry for your loss. Be strong and stay focused on living his dreams.

Playing ball at the park would never have been the same without Seth, and the phenomenal joy, enthusiasm and sportsmanship that he brought to every Saturday morning. We are so sorry for your loss, but glad to have known and played with him for so many years.

I went to the Boss Club at least 10 times in the late `84 period when there were lines out the door, leading Paul Shaffer to turn around, exclaiming, ``there's just too many people in there.'' And there were. In those pre-Internet days, I was stunned by the recorded and filmed bootlegs and could only take my hat off in admiration. Quite a place! Goodbye Bobby Jean.

Seth was shrewd, smart, clever, funny, witty, understanding, a competitor and a good dad and coach. I am shocked by his loss and saddened both for him and his family. I will miss him and will remember him with much affection for his role as a Beeman park dad and coach.
