Sherman SPIEGEL Obituary

SPIEGEL, Sherman Jerome August 20, 1936- June 9, 2011 Mr. Spiegel was born in Lawrence, MA to Mark and Elizabeth (Libby) Spiegel. He graduated from Boston English High School in 1954 and received a BSME from University of Massachusetts at Lowell. Mr. Spiegel served in the United States Air Force stationed overseas and was Honorably Discharged as a Major. He then settled in Southern California working for Johnson Controls, before starting his own company, American Multiplex Systems. He was personally recognized and thanked by President George H. Bush for his contributions in restoring the control system in the North Tower of the World Trade Center following the February 26th, 1993, bombing, the system which his company had initially developed. Since retiring, he had enjoyed traveling the world with his best friend and loving companion, Cynthia Faust. An affable and trusted friend, always there in time of need to offer selfless support, he will be greatly missed by many for his ability to listen objectively with patience and understanding. Mr. Spiegel faced his illness with courage, and died with the dignity and grace for which he was known, in his home with his beloved Cynthia at his side. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Goldstein; son, Scott (wife Debbie, daughters, Tori and Alli); daughter, Leesa (son Shayne), extended family Cathy Sullivan (husband, Kirk, daughter, Caitlin, son Kyle), and nephews. Services to honor Mr. Spiegel's life will be held at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills at the Old North Church, 2:30 P.M. on June 18th. Visitation will be held June 17th from 7-9 P.M. His family requests donations in his memory be made to the Burbank Kiwanis Foundation, 2106 Hilton Dr., Burbank, CA 91504.
