Stanley Miller Obituary

June 29, 1927 - January 28, 2019 Stanley John Miller, 91, of Pleasanton, California, died in his home surrounded by his loving family, on January 28, 2019, due to complications from cancer. Stan was born in Lewiston, Maine, on June 29, 1927. The eldest son of Israel (Abie) and Fannie Miller, Stan attended Edward Little High School. After finishing his Navy service in WWII, Stan attended the University of Maine where he graduated with two engineering degrees. Stan met his wife, Hilda L. Miller, at the University's Hillel program; they were married in June of 1951. Stan went on to earn his Master's degree at the University of Michigan and completed a mid-career executive program at MIT. Over Stan's extensive career, he worked as an electrical engineer for Westinghouse, Lincoln Laboratory, and the Pentagon. After many years as East Coast residents, the Millers moved to Tustin, California, where they stayed until 2013. There, Stan worked for McDonnell Douglas and then retired, where his interests included teaching a driving class called 55 Alive, traveling, working for local Democratic Party elections and the League of Women Voters. He and Hilda were active members of the University Synagogue in Irvine, CA. Stan is survived by his wife of 67 years, Hilda Livingston Miller; his three sons, Scott Miller of Falls Church, Virginia, David Miller of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and William Miller of Oakland, California; his daughters-in-law, Diane Miller and Crystal Land; his grandchildren, Alexis Miller, Grace Heaslip, Luke Campagnola, Ben Campagnola, Zachary Land-Miller and Haley Land-Miller. He is also survived by his sister Judy Berman of Alpharetta, Georgia; brother, Joseph Miller and sister-in-law Barbara Miller of Rockville Maryland; sister-in-law Ina Miller of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and four great-grandchildren. Family services will be held at Pacific View Memorial Park on Thursday, January 31st at 3:30 in Corona del Mar, California. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Heritage Pointe Senior Living in the Jewish Tradition, 27356 Bellogente, Mission Viejo, California 92691. Stan, ever the Eagle Scout, will be remembered for his kind heart, sharp mind and deep love of family.

Over 20 years ago, Stan & Hilda welcomed me into their home and lives in Tustin, California. I could never imagined it would turn into a friendship that would span 2+ decades. I am deeply sorry to hear of his passing and wish I could be there for the service. I will keep Hilda and the entire Miller family close to my heart today. Stanley has given us many reasons to mourn his passing and even more to celebrate his beautiful life. My sincerest condolences.
