Stephen Curtiss Collett

June 17, 1954 - October 27, 2013 Born June 17, 1954, Stephen was the son of James Barrie Collett and Anne Curtiss Collett. He passed away suddenly on October 27, 2013 at home in Hermosa Beach, CA from complications related to pneumonia. He was 59. Stephen was born in Evanston, IL and grew up in Arcadia, CA, where he attended Arcadia High School. He attended Colorado College, where he earned a BA in Business Administration, and later attended the University of Southern California, where he earned a MS in Business Taxation. He was a Certified Public Accountant and Managing Partner for 15 years at Collett & Levy. He was the president of Collett & Co, Inc. for the last 14 years. Stephen resided in Hermosa Beach, CA for a significant portion of his life, where he was known for amazing parties and walking his beautiful Great Pyrenees dogs along The Strand. Towards the end of his life, Stephen became passionate about politics, and was an incredibly vocal advocate for the Libertarian Party, often using his home and office as rallying locations for the liberty movement. He ran for Congress in 2012 and had aspirations to continue his attempt to gain public office. He graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles in May 2013 with a MS in Public Policy. Most importantly, Stephen will be remembered for his incredible intellect, his kind and generous spirit, and his love for all people. He was loved deeply by his family. Stephen is survived by his daughter, Jillian Lauren Liota, his twin brother, James Barrie Collett, Jr., two sisters, Jennifer Collett Burton and Martha Curtiss Happel, and five nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Riviera Methodist Church, 375 Palos Verdes Blvd, Redondo Beach, CA, on Friday, November 1, at 11 a.m. Memorial gifts can be made in the form of donation to the Great Pyrenees Rescue Association, or to any Humane Society.
