Una Lynch Obituary

August 28, 1926 - December 3, 2024 Una Devlin Lynch, loving mother of eight, grandmother of seventeen, great grandmother of three, born August 28, 1926 in Cork, Ireland and passed on to heaven December 3, 2024 from natural causes surrounded by family and friends at home.

Arriving in the United States in 1949 she soon married and started her family, her greatest source of pride. While raising eight children as a single working mother, a love of numbers lead Una to a successful career as a bookkeeper well into her 80's. Her strong belief in the value of an education resulted in her children obtaining seven bachelor's degrees, two master's degrees and two law degrees. She would often say, with great pride and that Irish twinkle in her eyes, "My children are my investments".

Sunday night dinners at her home on Orlando Ave were world famous. It was expected that her children would attend unless they were working or traveling. Relatives from Australia and Ireland would be at the table along with her children's friends and colleagues from all walks and professional fields. There was always room at her table. Another great joy was her work at St. Anne's which provided services for unwed and at-risk women. She was humbled to receive their Angel Award in 2014.

From her arrival in the US until her passing, the center of her spiritual life was St. Victor's Church in West Hollywood. From school principal to secretary of the church to fundraisers, she was always of service to her beloved community. She was charitable and welcoming to the poor, sick and lonely in her community for over 70 years. Just like her dinner table, her faith welcomed all.

Her life was a great adventure defined by faith, family, travel and education. Her laugh, joy of life, devotion to St Philomena and an unshakeable belief in God carried her through an extraordinary life that touched so many. She will be remembered with admiration, respect, and love.

So sorrry to hear of the sad passing of Una, she was a regular visitor to my mother Lou Atkins when she was in Cork they both loved the chats and the cups of tea. Many years ago I went to Los Angelos and stayed with Una and family I remember the traditional Sunday dinner with great fondness and the hospitality Una gave me. My sister Cieran remembers Una fondly and enjoyed meeting her on her many trips to Cork, Ireland. May Una rest in peace

Both Una and I were born in Cork, little did I realize that one day I would meet her and her wonderful family in Los Angeles, California
May each member of the family be blessed for the nameless acts of kindness they showered on their amazing mother, during her time of illness, and especially before her final Farewell.

May Una now enjoy Eternal Rest and joy with the many family members who have gone before her. Today, as you say your Final Farewells
know that your commitment to the care of your mother was indeed a
gift that will be blessed in the months and years ahead.

Una was a dear friend to my mother Peggy Leoni. Mom often attended Una's Sunday brunches at her Orlando Avenue home; and in her later years, I had the pleasure of driving Mom to several of these brunches attended by a few of Una's close friends each week. We were always welcome, and Una's homemade scones were a real treat!
Rest In Peace dear Una. My sincere condolences to her entire family.

I am someone who can't say "I love you" easily or often. I met Una at St Vic's in the 1980s. I became part of her extended family thereafter. I love you Una.
