Valentine Sky-skirgaila Obituary

Sky-skirgaila, Valentine Dr. Col/Ret. Dr. Sky a native of Lithuania, received his M.D. Degree from the University of Frankfurt/Main, Germany in 1949. In 1950, he came to the USA and Interned at the Swedish Hospital in Seattle, Washington. He joined the Army Medical Corps in 1953. His assignments included; Germany,Fort Lewis, Washington , Fort Sam Houston, Texas, 101st. Airborne in Kentucky. Later he was assigned to the 1st Special Forces (ABN) Serving in Okinawa, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Assignments with the 5th-7th and 10th Special Forces followed in quick succession... Dr. Sky had over 400 Parachute jumps to his credit. He retired from the US army in 1973 as a Colonel... Col. Sky was an avid sportsman, Mountain Climber, Tennis Player, Painter, Photographer, Ceramics Artist and Musician. He was a member of the German Alpen Verein Mountain Club and Korean Mountain Climbing Club K-E... Born on April 21, 1918 and passed away peacefully at home on June 17th 2003. Col. Sky is survived by his children Juanita, Ted, John; his four grand-children and six great-grandchildren... Also his brother, Albin and his family. Memorial Services will be held at the Wayfarer's Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes on the 17th of July, 2003 at 12:30pm The family request that in lieu of flowers friends can donate to the Alzheimers Research Assoc. in Dr. Sky's name.
