Virginia Duvall Obituary

February 25, 1938 - November 21, 2014 Virginia (Ginger) Duvall, 76, passed away peacefully at her home in Los Angeles November 21 after a brave, yearlong battle with cancer. Born in Portsmouth, VA, Ginger grew up in Hawaii, Washington, D.C. and Bethesda, MD, and graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. She received her degree from Mary Baldwin College in Virginia, and was President of her senior class. After marrying Melvin Duvall, she moved to California in 1962 to raise her family, arriving first in San Francisco and later moving to Los Angeles, where she would live for the last 40 years of her life. For 29 of those years, she worked as a Special Education teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Some years after Mel's death in 2000, Ginger was reunited with her college sweetheart Bob Pritchard, who himself moved to Los Angeles and shared a wonderful final decade with her; theirs was a great love story. To those lucky to have known her, Ginger was a classy woman, someone of great warmth, charm and generosity. She loved beautiful things, making guests feel at home and a dry martini. She was predeceased by her daughter Susan, and is survived by her partner Bob, her children John and Emily, and her grandson Conrad. A memorial service will be held at All Saints' Church in Beverly Hills at 3 PM on Wednesday, December 10.

Ginger was a treasure adorned with jewels of beauty, grace, and honesty. Ginger was sweet, giving, and appreciative plus discreetly direct and often humorous when sharing her observations and perspectives. She always brightened my smile and I thoroughly enjoyed her company when I could share a moment with her. May I express my heartfelt sympathy to the family upon the passing of our treasured co-worker. Much love.

I met this beautiful girl 59 years ago and knew that she would be a lifelong friend. Funny, kind, smart, brave, beautiful inside and out and always, always a lady. The remaining members of "the group" will miss her terribly but know that she is resting in the arms of the angels. Thank you Pritch for bringing her such happiness.

She was a darling person, and so many loved her. And Bob Pritchard was with her to the end, to comfort and sustain her in her trials. She is in a perfect place, but, oh, how we will miss her.
