Wayland Moore Obituary

Wayland Edward (Eddie) Moore of Long Beach, California, died on November 17, 2017 after a long illness. He was 78 years old. Growing up on the Natchez Trace, he was the youngest of seven children born to Ethel Bird Moore and Felix M. Moore of Cypress Inn, Tennessee. He attended high school in Collinwood, Tennessee, and received a partial scholarship to attend Berry College, where he worked on campus to supplement his tuition. He then transferred and graduated from Florence State Teacher's College with a degree in Psychology and English. He was a stand-out academically, and became an enthusiastic proponent of educational opportunity for all deserving students. After college, he entered government service, earning special commendations from the US Defense Department for his work in Europe, Vietnam and Iran. His coolness under pressure, quick decision making and strong moral compass saved many lives. After his retirement, he acted as a Quality Improvement Management and Stress Reduction Consultant. He is survived by his wonderful friend Mary Lou Navidad of Long Beach, California, sisters Josephine Roberts and Ethelene Garrison of Bartow, Florida, brother Winfred Moore and his wife Betty Moore of New Albany, Indiana, and ten nieces and nephews. Assisting with funeral services are nephew David Troutman of Lake Balboa, California, and niece Jeanne Cameron Gonzalez of Greer, South Carolina. The funeral service will be at 9 a.m. on Saturday, December 2nd in the Green Hills Mortuary Chapel, 27501 S. Western Ave., Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. For info call (310) 831-0311. Nephew, Dr. David Garrison of Monument, Colorado, will conduct the funeral service. Friends are welcome to share their memories and join us in celebrating Wayland's life!

Your picture surely represents your youthful spirit that endeared you to my family (Bob, Michelle, Garrett and Karolyn Troutman). Talking with my brother David has revealed his sincere gratitude for your guidance and support during his teen years. You helped establish his employment with the Department of Homeland Security, an opportunity that led him to meet his wife Jennifer. Personally, you have been a source of strength for me as I confront ongoing health issues associated with Parkinson's Disease. Through your numerous health issues you always exhibited a strength that belie the difficulties you faced on a daily basis and continue to inspire me in confronting my own issues.

We are truly sorry to learn of your passing. Little did we know the seriousness of your condition when we last saw you in the hospital. I fondly reminisce of the time we spent together having lunch at Fantastic Cafe and the 2nd Street Grill while I was working for the Port of Los Angeles and you were living in San Pedro. I throughly enjoyed hearing the numerous tales of your worldly travels, while you enjoyed adventures that few of us can experience in life let alone while retired. My one regret is that I never took you up on your invitation to travel with you. If only life could be lived over again.

May you find peace and comfort in the arms of our Lord and Savior.

Lovingly

Bob, Michelle, Garrett and Karolyn Troutman
