William Hinckley Obituary

Hinckley, William O'Brien
Bill Hinckley, 73, died May 5, 2005 at his home in Pasadena, surrounded by his loving family. Born February 1, 1932 in Long Beach, CA, he will be forever cherished by his wife of 47 years, Sally. His unconditional love of family will live on in his children, Cathy Lenz (Bob), Susan Knill (John), Jim (Cathy), and Tom (Cordelia); his sister Paula Ettinger; brother-in-law Donald Sheik, 10 grandchildren, six nephews, and numerous friends from his more than 40 years in San Marino and Pasadena. His life was guided by his Catholic faith and the values of his late mother, Evelyn O'Brien Hinckley, and his late father Carl. A lifelong Angeleno, he graduated from Glendale High School in 1950 and USC in 1957 (Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity). In between he proudly served as a U.S. Army corporal in the Korean War. It is fitting that he met his bride-to-be at a USC football game, as these were his two great passions. He went on to a corporate-communications careeer that included 34 years with CB Commercial Real Estate, where he was a Vice President. In 1997 he launched his own firm, Showcase Communications. He also gave his time and talents to the Serra Club, Boy Scouts of America, LA Beautiful, ALSC Presidents' Council, and various Catholic parishes. His top priority, however, was always his family and friends, who were blessed by his thoughtfulness and gentle humor. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, May 9, 10:00 am, Holy Family Church, 1501 Fremont Avenue, South Pasadena. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Los Angeles. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Huntington Hospital, Office of Philanthropy, 100 W. California Blvd., Pasadena 91105, or to Assistance League of Southern California, 1370 N. St. Andrews Place, L.A. 90028. Cabot & Sons, Directors
