Dear Mrs. Weinberg & family - I am so sorry for your loss. When I saw the article of his passing in the Pacific Business News, I was heartbroken that such a great man had been taken from the world. I worked for Mr. Weinberg, Marc and Andy at "The Club" and, can say I have never admired anyone the way I admired Mr. Weinberg. I will never forget how I was treated more like family by your family than just an employee. May you find comfort in the memories. Helen "V"

Obituary from the Los Angeles Times
December 1, 2009
WEINBERG, William Extraordinary Gentleman with a Noble Heart (1928 - 2009) Former Hawaii resident, businessman, and philanthropist, William Weinberg passed away November 21 in Camarillo, California at the age of 81. Mr. Weinberg and his brother Larry formed the Larwin Company and achieved a great deal of success in commercial and residential real-estate development in Southern California. The Kahala Hilton Hotel, which he owned from 1977 to 1993, was the investment most near and dear to his heart. He was renown by his employees for his kindness, integrity and generosity. His business successes lived in the shadow of his endless philanthropic endowments: Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel Bonds, the Jewish Federations, and many others, often anonymously and always modest of any recognition or accolades. His beloved wife Doris; sons Dale, Marc, Bob, Richard, daughter Liz; eight grandchildren: Russell, Erick, Steve, Seth, Aaron, David, Megan and Courtney, and his brother Larry survive him. His family and friends will remember him for his genuine appreciation of life and those around him, his upstanding character, dignity and quiet grace. He was a true mensch, a blessing for all who knew him and the world at large.

Dear Family:
Our shock and sorrow over Uncle Billy’s passing is beyond measure. The memory of his warmth and kindness will remain with us throughout our lives. His gentleness of spirit, deep laugh, and sweet voice were a fixture in our family that can never be replaced. It is impossible to think of one Weinberg brother without the other. The stories of how Dad/Larry and Uncle Billy grew up in Seagate, then together became an aircraft parts supplier to the Government during the Korean War and later went on to transform Larwin into the largest privately held single family home building company in the U.S., have become staple of family lore. More than that, they are an inspiration to all of us, a guide to the power of family, friendship and love and its ability to overcome seemingly intractable odds.
It is impossible to think of Uncle Billy without picturing Hawai’i and the the Kahala Hotel. For us, the two always will be inseparable. The Kahala was his passion as much as it was a business. For hundreds of families, including our own, it was a dream destination, crafted and maintained by his hand – an example of excellence in hospitality few have matched. In our mind’s eye he always will be associated with paradise. His presence among our family was surely as comforting and reassuring as the warm island air itself.
Uncle Billy’s devotion also extended deeply into the Jewish Community, the Hawaiian and Los Angeles communities and to Israel. From local charities to institutions of higher learning, he was both a friend and a benefactor. His good works will remain a fixture of his time on earth. His essential goodness and generosity will forever be his legacy.
We will miss you always, Uncle Billy. With all our love and affection,
Julie, Randy, Aliza, Yael and Eitan Fishbein
