Zell Van Myers Obituary

VAN MYERS, Zell S. Zell passed away on January 7, 2009 in San Clemente at the age of 88. He served during WWII in the 8th Air Force, as a test pilot, prior to the Normandy invasion and with the 9th Air Force during the invasion of Europe. Zell, a member of the American Institute of Architects, earned his architectural degree from USC in 1950. He retired in 1983 as Chief Architect from the County of Los Angeles, having overseen one of the largest capital projects programs in the nation. Zell was the beloved husband for 34 years of Linda Jean. Zell and Linda enjoyed travel and together visited many different countries. Zell was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Jean; and leaves two daughters, Kathryn and Cynthia; three grandchildren, Kristen, Justin and Brent; and one great-grandchild, Katie. Zell had many loving friends and was the delight of those who knew him. He was the beloved patriarch of his family whose keen mind and adventurous spirit will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. No services will be held as the family will be privately scattering his ashes at sea. Donations in Zell's memory may be made to the USC School of Architecture: Dottie O'Carroll, Director of Development, USC School of Architecture, Watt Hall 204, Los Angeles, California 90089-0291
