WAGRAM — Dorothy Hope Johnston McKay, 89, joined the Church Triumphant on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018, at Morrison Manor.
Dot, as she was known to friends and family, was born in Aulander in 1929, to the late Nathan "Jack" and Velma Minton Johnston. She was a graduate of Aulander High School and was a proud service member of the United States Air Force. Dot was an avid bridge player and enjoyed gardening and bird watching.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Duncan L. McKay of the home; children, Jeffrey L. McKay and wife Leigh Ann, Neill D. McKay and wife Rhonda; grandchildren, Mollie McKay, Emily McKay, Andrew McKay and Nathan McKay; and sister, Sandy O'Conner of Baton Rouge, LA. She is preceded in death by her siblings, Ruth White, Nathan Johnston, Charlotte Askew, Susie Beale, Karl Johnston and George Johnston.
A funeral service will be 3 p.m., Aug. 19, at Montpelier Presbyterian Church in Wagram, officiated by the Rev. John Baker. Burial will follow in the McGill-McKay Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. in the church fellowship hall prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations can be made in Dot's name to Montpelier Presbyterian Church, 24080 Main St., Wagram, 28396 or Scotland Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, N.C. 28353.
