LAUREL HILL — Helen Hayes Huggins, 87, of Laurel Hill passed away to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, May 29, 2018.
Helen was an only child of Cecil Paul "CP" Hayes and Martha Britt Hayes born Nov. 29, 1930 in Lumberton. She was the loving and devoted wife of 64 years to the late Archie Monroe Huggins who preceded her in death in 2013. She was a beautiful lady who loved her family, church and community. She retired after 34 years with the United States Postal Service as the Laurel Hill post master.
Helen was the last living Charter Member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church where she dedicated her life to serving in many areas including Ladies Sunday school teacher, principal of vacation bible school and loved singing in the choir. Her favorite times were spent traveling with Archie, shopping with Joan, going to the beach, bird watching and caring for her beautiful flowers. Helen will always be remembered for her loving spirit and the joy she brought to others.
Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy Huggins Thompson.
Surviving are her daughters, Paula Huggins Hyatt of Lexington, S.C.; Joan Huggins Walters and husband Mike of Laurel Hill; son-in-law, John Thompson of Laurel Hill; and grandchildren, Kelly Hill, Jessica Hyatt (Jonathan Aubuchont), Simpson Huggins Hyatt, Justin Walters, Daniel Monroe Walters (Megan) and great-grandchild, Haley Hill.
Funeral services to celebrate her life will be at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6 at the Laurel Hill Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Don Malpass. Burial will follow the service in Hillside Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Laurel Hill Baptist Church.
In her memory, the family requests for donations to be given to the Laurel Hill Baptist Church, P.O. Box 367, Laurel Hill, NC 28351.
The family wishes to acknowledge with special gratitude the exceptional loving care provided by Renita Amos, Delois Chavis, Oneka Evans, Iris Lockhart, Carol Ferrell, Debbie Wright, Laurel Hill Church family and staff of Scotland Regional Hospice, Prestwick Village and Scottish Pines Rehabilitation Nursing Center.
