James Chance Obituary

LAURINBURG — James Howard Chance, Jr., 50, passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at his home in Laurinburg, after a long courageous battle with cancer with his wife of many years, Aimee Chance and children: Catelyn Chance Taylor, Miranda Chance and Jamie Chance by his side.

James was born in Laurinburg to the late James Howard Chance, Sr. and Mary Mageline Jones Chance on December 3, 1966. He attended and graduated from Scotland High School in 1985. On August 5, 2000, he married his soul mate and the love of his life, Aimee Braswell. He was employed by Campbell Soup in the maintenance department.

He enjoyed watching football, basketball, fishing, golfing and especially loved spending time at Lake Tillery. James was a soccer and baseball coach for Scotland County Parks and Recreation and Optimist Park. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children, grandson and family.

He is also preceded in death by his sister Michelle Lynn Chance; his eldest son James "Trey" Howard Chance III; paternal grandparents, John Robert and Myrtle Chance; maternal grandparents Bobby Norton and Mary Jane McLean.

James is survived by his loving wife of many years, Aimee Chance; daughter, Catelyn Chance Taylor ( Julius "Spanky"); daughter Miranda Chance and special love, Colton Williams; son, Jamie Chance; grandson Julius "Creed" Taylor; brother, Randy Chance (Teresa) of Hamlet; sister, Sandra Clark (Garry) of Laurel Hill; in-laws, Craig and Judy Hunt all of Laurinburg; grandmother, Betty Joyce Braswell of Laurinburg; special aunt, Deborah Quick (Charles) of Laurinburg; nieces, Cassie Gray (Ronnie) of Laurinburg; Jordyn Chance and Harry DeBerry of Hamlet, Megan Bristow and Hailey Clark, both of Laurel Hill, Kamlyn Ledwell of Hamlet and Jennifer Chance of Maxton; nephew William Stubbs III of Hamlet and a host of uncles, aunts and cousins.

A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. on Saturday June 3 at Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel. The family will be receiving friends immediately following the service. The family will receive friends at other times at his home.

"The time we had with you was not enough, yes we want much more, but we know you are no longer hurting and now at peace, go rest high on that mountain. You will be missed more than you know and in no way will you be forgotten. We love you so much."
