Mulberry, Fla. - John H. Kenney Jr, 85, of Mulberry, FL, passed away Friday, July 14th, 2023, at Lakeland Regional Health. John was born and lived in Dover, NJ, until moving to Florida in 1999.
John started working at the family business John H Kenney Roofing and Sheet Metal Co. in Dover, NJ, after high school graduation. He took over ownership in 1975 through his retirement in 1990. He was also a lifelong Roofers and Waterproofers, Local #4 member.
Over the years, John had a passion for traveling, especially RV camping. He loved exploring new places and creating cherished memories with his beloved family. His adventurous spirit and love for the great outdoors were evident in his enthusiasm for RV trips across the country.
John's greatest joy came from spending quality time with his family, particularly his grandchildren. He was an adoring grandfather, always ready with a smile, a kind word, and a playful spirit. Whether it was sharing stories or teaching them valuable life lessons, John had an immeasurable impact on his grandchildren's lives.
In addition to his immediate family, John leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth. His charismatic presence and genuine interest in others made him a beloved friend to many. He will be remembered for his generosity, his unwavering loyalty, and his ability to make everyone feel welcome in his presence.
John is survived by his wife of 62 years, Thelma Kenney, his son John H. Kenney III, his daughter-in-law Meri Kenney, and his grandchildren, John IV, Lauren, and Christine. He was predeceased by his father, John H. Kenney Sr., his mother, Mary K. Kenney (O'Brien), and his sister, Margaret M. Kenney.
As we bid farewell to John, let us celebrate his remarkable life and profound impact on all who knew him. His memory will forever remain in our hearts, and his legacy will continue to inspire us to cherish our loved ones and embrace life's adventures with joy and enthusiasm.
The funeral will be held at Locust Hill Cemetary 168 N Sussex St, Dover, NJ, on Friday, October 6th at 11:30 a.m.
