Clara Jo (Stallsmith) Porter

Clara Jo (Stallsmith) Porter (CJ), age 84, of Long Beach, CA passed away peacefully September 27, 2014 at her residence with her family by her side. She was born at home on the family farm on September 9, 1930 in Deer Creek Township, Mercer County, PA; a daughter of Walter W. and Esther Marie (Carey) Stallsmith. She attended Cochranton High School. During her lifetime, she worked at various factory jobs, including the former Talon Inc. of Meadville, PA, and the former Jergens Co. in CA. In her younger years, she enjoyed traveling with her sister, Mabel Evelyn (Stallsmith) Stewart. She loved God, her family and the cats she cared for throughout the years. She very much enjoyed reading and watching the Laker's and Dodger's games. Survivors include her sisters, Shirley Skrivanek and Jean Purcell of Texas, Louise Gilmore of Greenville, PA, and Wilda Boyd and her husband, Robert of Stoneboro PA; her daughter, Carol Howard of Long Beach, CA; her son, Richard Hudson and his wife, Tess of Stoneboro, PA; her grandchildren, Patricia (DuPont) Tejeda of Springfield, OR, Bryan Howard of Meadville, PA, and Lori (Hudson) Cox of Clarks Mills, PA. She also has six great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her infant brother, Glenn Alan and her brothers, Robert and David Stallsmith of PA; her sisters, Mabel Evelyn (Stallsmith) Stewart of Glendale, CA, and Marian Isabelle (Stallsmith) Flick of Meadville, PA. A special thank-you to the Optimal Hospice Foundation which was such a great help during this very difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made to this worthy non-profit organization. CJ's ashes will be scattered and a Memorial Service will be held in early summer 2015 in PA. at a date yet to be determined. Please sign the guest book at www.presstelegram.com/obits.

Carol, I sent you a card but it came back so I must have had the wrong address. I wanted you to know that even though I did not see your mother nearly as often as I wished, I enjoyed every moment of the times I did get to spend with her. And I loved to get letters from her. Hope to see you and your family in 2015 for her memorial.
