In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

TO THE FAMILY: With deepest sympathy for your loss at this time.
To David:Thank you for having faith in my ability and bringing me to Changing Spirits. You were more than just a boss; you were my teacher, confidant and most of all my friend. You encouraged me and inspired me to be a better human being through the fundamental principals of recovery and the values we both believed in.
I also want to thank you for your compassion and steadfast counsel on the struggles and decisions I faced over the last few years.I only hope that I had been the same for you.Especially the last year as I saw the joy expressed for God placing Krista in your life and pain of your loss. I'll miss most the discussions we had on spirituality, politics and the new hope and our passion for helping others, music and baseball. I'll miss you Dave. The suffering is over, I know you've found the peace we all seek.God bless you. Your friend Leo

You are an amazing person Uncle Dave... you touched so many people with your compassion and kindness, very much a gentle, loving soul who gave so much of yourself and made this world a better place. I admire you so very much; I was blessed to have you as my uncle and god-father, and as a great-uncle to my daughter. I will miss your smile and distinctive, funny laugh. Your faith in God and giving heart have given you your final reward in Heaven. I will miss you deeply but am comforted that God has brought you home. I'm quite sure you are finally playing your guitar again for all to hear...I love you Uncle Dave.

David was one of the most kind and caring persons I have ever known. He was truly an asset to recovery both in his vocation and as a member of NA and AA. His spirit of giving back was remarkable. NA and AA will always remember as I will. As Dave’s NA sponsor we shared and conquered many of life’s hurdles but what is more important is in what Dave gave to me: A fine example that there is always hope and that it is always obtainable by doing the footwork and maintaining an attitude of persistence.

By always listening to others, you set an example for me. A couple of times I listened to you (Im selfish). It was a few months since Christa's death. You told me the shock had worn off and the pain of her absence hurt even more. Tears came to your eyes when you talked about "your baby". My heart went out to you. I will never forget your humanness, your emotional sensitivity, your fearlessness to express your innermost feelings of pain and joy; pain of missing her and joy of having known her. Gratitude for both. You taught me what it really means to be human. Thank You. I will try to take something of what I learned from you and pass it on. I will try to remember to listen to others and in that big meeting in the sky David, "Save me a seat, would you?"

Dear David,
First cousins by order but too few and far between times of fellowship. But no concerns of our re-encounter with one another.... because that what "his word "promises. I am very proud to hear of the journey your life had taken and again no doubt that you will continue in spirit being the 'Warrior of Goodness' you were here to all who loved and knew you. So my cousin, til than in God's speed see you at the family reunion up above, save me a seat.;-) with much love.
