Donald Hare Obituary

Hare, Donald James

Donald James Hare, 69, of Covina, CA passed away on March 10, 2011 in Las Vegas, NV from complications of diverticulitis. He was originally born in Chicago, IL. However, he spent most of his life in Southern California. He graduated from West Covina High School where he was a star baseball player. He went on to play semi-professional baseball for a short period of time. He then served in the army, got married and raised two children, Shannon Hare Rouillard and Travis Richard Hare. His professional life included being a wallpaper hanger, realtor, taxi and limousine driver. However, his true love was something he never got paid to do, coaching! For almost 20 years, he coached junior all-american football for the Covina Vikings. If there was a baseball game at Hollenbeck Park, you could always find Don recruiting young and talented baseball athletes to come play for his football team. He was extremely successful and many of the young men he mentored went on to successful high school, college and professional football careers. Don also had a passion for coaching his two children. He was a very loving and dedicated father that made countless sacrifices to always be there for his kids. He taught his daughter Shannon just about everything she knows about playing the game of golf and his son, Travis everything he knew about baseball, football and his love of old cars.
Don is survived by his two children Shannon and Travis, two grandchildren, Brady Davis Rouillard and Tristan Dallas Hare. He will be sorely missed by his loved ones and the many lives that he touched during his coaching career.

I met Don through football as I was the San Gabriel Valley Cheer Coordinator for Junior All American Football. Football brought us together but his kindness, nievity and big heart kept our friendship alive. I inspired him to become a realtor and he loved helping people. Actually he was too nice to be a realtor as he wanted to make sure everyone he represented got the best deal and if something went wrong he took it personally. When he moved to Las Vegas I knew he was in his eliment. He loved meeting new people and his job allowed him to do that. He loved helping people especially those that could not help themselves. Don touched my life in a way very few people do. I think of him often and miss him.
