Donald Redoglia Obituary

Donald Redoglia On Wednesday, February 23, Donald Paul Redoglia passed away peacefully at home at the age of 57. He was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma last October. Like all challenges in his life, he faced cancer head-on and fought hard; though ultimately, this was not a battle to be won. Don was born in Pasadena on April 15, 1953 and was a gifted athlete from a young age. He attended Pasadena High School and was a three-sport letterman in baseball, basketball, and football. He continued to play baseball at Pasadena City College; then transferred to Chapman University, where he originally met his future wife, Georg-Ann Talin. In 1974, Don left Chapman to pursue his dreams of becoming a professional baseball player in Kenai, Alaska. As an infielder for the Peninsula Oilers, he set a single-season home run record that would not be broken until 1997. He went on to play second base for the St. Louis Cardinal's single-A affiliate in St. Petersburg, Florida, before returning to Los Angeles to begin his professional career as a propmaker and construction foreman for the film and TV industry. Affectionately known as "Rags" to his colleagues, Donald worked on dozens of major productions, occasionally traveling on location across the United States during his 35-year career. In 2001, he joined the crew of Scrubs, which became an extended family, as he worked on every episode from the pilot to the finale during its 9-season run-even appearing as an extra in the opening segment of episode 709 "My Princess." His greatest achievement, however, was being an incredible father. He and his first wife, Peggy Cosko, raised daughter Lucy, 27, and son Matthew, 25, for whom he provided unconditional love, protection, and support. Despite his tough exterior, he was a big softy, and he could always be counted on to shed a tear when opening gifts from his children on Christmas morning. Five years ago, after a Chapman baseball reunion, Don reconnected with Georg-Ann and the two were married on May 22, 2010. Though the second chapter of their romance was so tragically short-lived, this was the happiest time of his life. And until the end, his eyes lit up whenever she entered the room. Donald now joins his father, Harry, who succumbed to cancer in 1989. He is survived by his wife, Georg-Ann, her daughter Ashley, his two children Lucy and Matt, his mother Elizabeth, brothers Doug and Richard, and hundreds of friends and family members who already miss him deeply. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 3, at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Community. In lieu of flowers, family members suggest that any memorial contributions be made to The Angeles Clinic Foundation, 2001 Santa Monica Blvd. Suite 560 W. Santa Monica, CA 90404. Dear Georg-Ann,
Donald and I met in a sandbox when were both 4 years old. Our parents became good friends, and so did we. For nearly 10 years, we were next-door neighbors on Locksley Drive. As great an athlete as Donald was, I was not. But we still spent countless hours together shooting hoops, playing whiffle-ball, and swimming. I don't think I ever beat him in a game of ping-pong. Don NEVER made me feel inferior, nor did he put me down for not playing at his level. I don't know if he ever knew what a great gift that was he gave me. We were in different circles at Pasadena High School, but he was always my friend. And Elizabeth was like a second mother to me. I am deeply saddened that my childhood buddy is gone. Thank you for bringing him great joy at the end of his life. Deep peace to you.

Dear Georg-Ann, I am a person that grew up with Donald. He was a little older than me, more my brother Denis's age. They played baseball together and damn was Donald a great ballplayer. He had a great sense of humor. I will miss those that I grew up with because we all learned to be decent human beings together. The kids that lived in our neighborhood had a very privilged upbring but we were all good kids. May God hold Donald in his arms with all the love he has. I remain, Debrah Imler.

Dear Georg-Ann,
My mom and Jim were kind w enough to send me a copy of the obit that the paper did. I did not have a lot of time with Don so I was happy to get to know a bit more about him. There are places in Santa Fe that are different for me now because you two were here last year for Valentine's Day. I am grateful that you shared some of your time together with me. I remember walking into the room you two shared and how Don had decorations and flowers around to welcome you and had made such thoughtful plans for your time together. You showed me the ring he was going to give you that weekend for your official engagement. His reaction to you when we met him on the Plaza was just as the obit described....he lit up when he saw you. I cannot fathom the depth of your loss and all who knew and loved him. My prayer for you is that God wraps you tightly in his embrace along with his other loved ones during this time. You are in my heart and prayers.
