I don't know where to start. I was a friend from high school and reconnected through Facebook. I didn't have many friends in high school and Erik was one of the nicest guys I knew. He was one of a kind. Somebody I will never forget. He put a flower in my locker once and he never told me how he opened it. He was funny that way.
I am so sorry for his family and wife. He will be missed by so many. I wish I could have thanked him for being my friend.
My deepest sympathies

For Erik's family and friends,
I am deepenly saddened by the loss of such an amazing man. I was in the area of the accident and felt compelled to find out what happened. I am a bicyclist who grew up in the Laurel/Fruitvale district and still live nearby. As I began to read about Erik, I realized that he and my husband shared a birthday and also both graduated from U.C. Santa Cruz with philosophy degrees. As a wife and mother, I know your loss is unbearable. I wish you much strenth and grace in the days ahead. May the warmth of those you love surround you.

It has been a long time since I've seen Erik...I went to high school with him. Recently found him on Facebook through another friend and was looking forward to reconnecting. Incredibly sad to hear of his passing. My deepest sympathy and condolances to the family and friends. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

To Erik's Family,
I was so sorry to hear about the tragic loss of your husband and son. I felt so sorry that Erik was going about his daily routine and this tragic thing happened to him. There's a bike parked at the corner of MacArthur and Loma Vista St in Oakland and I will always keep him in my memory and pray that he's w/the heavenly angels. May he rest in peace and all us should remember this rule that I was taught in driver's ed. approx 45 yrs ago (Never Open Your Car Door until it is safe). Let's all remember this for Erik. May he rest in peace and each of you are in my prayers.

Hi Eric's Mom!!! I was just reading the Star Trek book that was handed out at a slumber party of his back when we were going to elementary school. Thank you once again. I guess I'll have to go to a showing of The Dark Crystal, and enjoy it double-time.
I'll grieve with thee.

I am so incredibly sorry to hear of Erik's passing. I am a fellow night law student at USF. I started the same year as Erik and had the pleasure of joining him in many law school courses. Without a doubt, Erik was always one of the most prepared, well-versed, enthusiastic and outgoing students in the classroom. His presence will be greatly missed and I am deeply saddened by his loss. My condolences to his family.

I am very depressed to hear of this. I knew Eric when I was growing up, and I always remembered him as an incredibly kind, sweet individual. Although we lost touch over the years, this news struck me very powerfully. I cannot stop thinking about what a great man the world has lost. We had recently been emailing each other planning to reconnect in Long Beach, and I am very depressed that I will not see him again.

I am deeply saddened about Erik's death. I never met him, but as a fellow bicyclist I feel a loss. I have read many of his posts online and it is evident he was a truly good man who loved his wife and family deeply. I wish all who knew him to reflect on what an honor he was and to cherish the times you've spent with him. My deepest sympathies.

I met Erik when I was still a client at Walden House. I am now a grateful staff member. I will always remember his sunny smile and cheerful disposition, and how he went out of his way to say hello to people! To his family, I am sorry for your loss. He was a caring person.

His life lent new avenues of meaning to some of those who had the benefit of his friendship and that of his family.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I am an adjunct professor of ethics at USF and it is very disheartening to hear of the death of a law student. I know I speak for USF in saying that he will be missed at this school, which would have been proud to have him as an alumni. Please accept my condolences.
