James Polhemus Obituary

James F. Polhemus

August 8, 1924 – October 12, 2015

In his 91 years, James Francis Polhemus – "J.P." to everyone he knew – had many successes: a long career as a commodity broker and Vice President at Merrill Lynch (after working as a livestock broker & dairy farmer); three children from his marriage to the late Patricia Loeffler (Polhemus) of Long Beach; four grandchildren; & a long, loving marriage to his second wife Marlene. Born at home on a farm in Burt, Iowa, he served in the U.S. Navy and graduated from USC's business school (Class of '47). Formerly from Artesia & the Colorado Lagoon area of Long Beach, he was an Upland resident for the past 30 years. Survivors include his wife; his children Jennifer Polhemus, Doug Polhemus, & Gretchen Polhemus Boudreau (all Wilson High graduates); four grandchildren; & his sister Marcia Graham. Jennifer,
Joe and I are so sorry for your loss. Two in a year? That's a lot to handle. We are sure 91 held a lot of great memories.

BTW, Joe and I are moving to NJ in November? It's just the two of us so why not start a new chapter.

Sincerely,
Caryl and Joe Fox

The Pohumus', Patricia and children were my neighbors in Alamitos Heights. I used to go to their house in the mid 1960's to play with Gretchen. My condolences to the family.

My heartfelt condolences! I was crazy about your father! He had so much zest! He was interested in those around him. It is simply so sad, however I can rejoice in a life lived fully that touched me.

So sorry to hear the news that JP has died. I recall when I was President of the Chino Valley Chamber of Commerce JP was on Staff and what a wonderful gentleman he was!!! JP added lots of value to the Chamber of Commerce as he was a knowledgeable business man. Jp was so very giving and had a big heart. Everyone enjoyed being around him. I will miss his kindness and gentle spirit. My thoughts and prayers are with his family whom he loved very much.
