Susan Berry Obituary

06/29/1953 - 09/12/2021 The world lost a beloved mother, Susan Lynn Berry, on Sept. 12, 2021. Susan battled Endometrial Stromal Sarcoma cancer, but it never stopped her from giving the best hugs. Susan died in her home surrounded by her children, Michele, Chris, Julie, Patricia, Deanna, Nicole, and Melissa. Susan was born on June 29, 1953 at St. Mary's Hospital in Long Beach, CA. She claims to have learned everything she knew from her own loving parents, Leonard & Patsy Cerulle, grandparents, Thomas and Mary Hartman, and great grandma, Ruth Foster. Susan worked as a Recreation Aid at Gompers Elementary for 30 years, so she could be around kids forever. She also taught Release Time Religion and loved sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with all who would listen. Her colleagues knew her as a kind and generous soul, always willing to cheer kids up with her hugs, and bribe them for good behavior with pencils, stickers, and candy. Susan is survived by her brother Scott. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, her two sons, Eric and John, her great grandmother, her grandparents, and her mother. Susan's Celebration of Life service will be held at Life Center Church in Lakewood, CA on Saturday, September 25, 2021 from 11AM-2PM. Per the family's wishes the funeral service at All Souls Cemetery on October 4, 2021 is to remain private.

She was such a nice staff member at Gompers Middle and Elementary School. I was a student there and everyone loved her. I just found out she died and I'm genuinely sad upon this discovery. I hope she is in heaven and rejoicing with God. May God bless her kind soul.

So sorry to hear about Mrs. Berry's passing. I had several of her children in my class at Gompers School. She was always very supportive of all the teachers and a surrogate mother to the children under her playground supervision. I'm sure she will be sorely missed be her family and friends.

My mom was the most beautiful, selfless, empathetic person I've ever met. Everyone she met in life she always left a positive impact, and spread so much joy just by walking into a room. I'll greatly miss her smile, her laugh and most of all her caring heart and listening ears. Love you forever Mom

I am saddened to hear about Mrs Berry. I was the former school nurse at Gompers until 2018. She always had a smile and a kind word. The students were fond of her and I was too. May she rest in peace.

Susan was a kind hearted person who touched the lives of many. She was always positive no matter how dire a situation might be. Life dealt her a lot of sorrow in life, however, her faith sustained her.
