Bill is survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James Vernon Roth; and his mother, Margaret Josephine Sex Roth. Bill was very proud of the fact that he was a third generation Californian. One great-grandfather, William Sex, migrated to San Luis Obispo from County Kildare in Ireland in the 1860's, and later settled in Downey. One of his grandfathers, Alan Neighbors, brought his family from Austin, Texas, after being taken prisoner during the Civil War by the North in Illinois and then pledging allegiance to the United States of America. He was a Texas Ranger for one year before heading out to California in a wagon train with his wife and six children. He then helped to settle Downey aka Gallatin, CA, at that time. Bill's mother was the seventh child, and she was born in Downey. Bill thoroughly enjoyed life, especially w alking the Huntington Beach pier and traveling throughout the world, hiking and climbing mountains. As a young boy, Bill sold ice cream from a cart and sold roses at St. Mary's Hospital in Long Beach. Always a salesman, he was a mobile home dealer for 35 years. Bill never met a stranger, loved telling stories, and was sincerely interested in other people's lives. We all loved him dearly and we will miss his love and care. In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting that donations be made in memory of Bill to the
American Heart Association,
American Cancer Society or the Orange County Chapter of the Alzheimer's Foundation. Private burial services are being held at Magnolia Cemetery in Garden Grove. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date, yet to be determined. Heritage Memorial (714) 842-2400
