Alfred McBride

Alfred "Jerry" McBride passed from this Earth in the presence of our Lord on June 12, 2015. He would have been 74 in a few days. He was a lifelong resident of Grant County, spending his childhood in Fort Bayard. He went into the Army in 1959, and was honorably discharged in 1962. He was a man of many trades. He worked in Cliff on the conservation dams, for the power company, partners with Chet Brown at Hilltop Shell, housing construction and W.N.M. Telephone Co. He loved to hunt, fish and go camping. He loved woodworking and making knives, and liked to make turquoise jewelry. Most of all, he loved the Lord and his family and friends. He was a charter member of Gila Valley Baptist Church and was an ordained deacon, becoming inactive in recent years. He is survived by Janet, his wife of 52 years; his son, Darren; his daughter, Shannon Herd (Jerry); granddaughters, Jessica (Ryan) Penrod, Lexi Herd and grandson Jordan Herd; great-grandchildren, Bransen, Payton and Allison Penrod; sisters, Ernestine Mauk, Evelyn Pierce and Barbara Gilbreath; and brother, Steve McBride. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Florence McBride. He fought a long and hard battle with cancer. A memorial service with military honors will be held Thursday, June 25, at 10 a.m. at Terrazas Funeral Chapels, with the Rev. Tar Henderson officiating.
