RUBIO - Damian Carlos Rubio, 33, a resident of Las Cruces since 2004, died Monday, July 7, 2008. He is survived by his spouse Aarika Rubio of Las Cruces; his girls Mercedes of San Diego, CA, Kianna & Carlina of Las Cruces, NM; his mother Catherine C. Rubio of Albuquerque, NM; sister Ann-Renée and husband John Maes; his brother Gabriel and wife Jaci Rubio; nephews Juan-Carlos Maes and Elias Rubio; niece Azelea Rubio; grandmothers Della Gallegos of Las Vegas, NM and Margaret and Max Sandoval of San Diego, CA; as well as numerous other Aunts, Uncles, cousins and friends. Mr. Rubio was preceded in death by his father Carlos E. Rubio, niece Jennifer Ann Maes and Grandfathers Benjamin Gallegos and Juan Rubio. Honorary pallbearers are Gabriel Rubio, John Maes and Phil Gallegos. A rosary will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at French Mortuary Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course Rd NW. A mass will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, July 14, 2008 at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St. Joseph Dr. NW. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Damian's honor to Families & Youth Inc. in Las Cruces. P.O. Box 1868 Las Cruces, NM 88004. FYI is the organization Damian worked for, the staff, parents and children brought meaning, joy and satisfaction that were only surpassed by his love for his girls.

Rubio grew to be one of my bestest friends, and we only knew each other for a short while, but it was time well spent. We shared a lot of laughs, and we learned a lot together in regards to furthering our education and living our lives. Rubio had a tremendous impact on our youth, and he took a special interest in individuals struggling with substance abuse issues. A lot of our clientele at F.Y.I. often requested Rubio because he was fun to be around, and you remembered the lessons he spoke of, as he often spoke from his own collective experience. I miss you very much Rubio, and I still draw pictures of you, so I hope you're looking down on us, so you can continue to laugh.

My sincerest condolences to Damian's family- his mother Cathy, his siblings, and his little girls. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I had the privilege of working with Damian at FYI and getting to know the caring, funny, intelligent person he was. After the two years of working with him, I considered him a good friend. One of the things I will always remember about Rubio is that he went above and beyond his job requirements with the young, often extremely troubled kids he worked with. He always had his door open, an ear for listening to them anytime, and a shoulder to cry on if they needed it. Many of his 'work' kids came back after he was no longer their TC, because they knew he would always have time for them.

I was honored to know Damian and lucky enough to meet two out of the three most important people in his life- his daughters.

My sincerest prayers go out to all those who Damian held dear to him.

I had the pleasure of meeting Damian here at FYI by way of Jacqueline. I only knew him for a short period of time, but during that time his laid back personality, sense of humor, and the vision he shared with me about new creative ways to help young people will stick with me forever.

I hope that the vision everyone will keep is that he loved his children more than anything, and his family and friends meant everything.

On 07JUL'08, the entire Rubio family suffered a tremendous loss of their beloved Damian (son, father, and brother). Damian often lit up the hallways of Families & Youth Inc with his comical personality. Always trying to make others smile, he has left a void for many.

I had the pleasure of knowing Damian, as he was a dear friend of my daughter, Jacqueline. He always made me laugh! I'll miss his interjections when I'd be speaking with Jax on the phone..."Hi Jacquie's Mom!" His kind hearted nature made such an impression on me & I'll never forget him!

Please allow me to express my sincerest condolences to his mother, Cathy, to all his siblings, and to his children: Mercedes, Kianna & Carlina. You will be in our prayers! My heart aches for you Cathy, as it truly is a difficult thing to part with a child! I truly pray that God comforts you all through this difficult time.
