Jo Ray Obituary

Jo Ann Ray passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Mesilla Valley Hospice Care Center in Las Cruces, NM. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church Las Cruces on Friday September 16 at 11:00.

Jo was born on September 8, 1948 in Port Clinton, Ohio to the late Robert and Dorothy Colston. Her family moved to New Mexico where she attended Las Cruces High School and graduated in 1966. Jo married William L. Ray in 1983. Together they enjoyed square dancing, hunting, and shooting. Jo retired after many years as an insurance underwriter with Farm Bureau. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church. She loved attending worship services and especially enjoyed her Sunday School class where she had many dear friends. Jo volunteered for several organizations including Cowboys for Cancer. Jo had a very kind soul and a generous heart. She was always serving and giving to others.

Jo leaves behind her loving husband Bill; her daughter Denise "DeDe" Marois Woodard and husband Brandon and their four boys Ashton, Aaron, Alden, and Aason Woodard; her stepson Scott Ray and his wife Amy of Cedar Creek, TX; her stepdaughter Pam Skeen and her husband Martin of Katy, TX; her sister Nancy Simpson of Phoenix AZ; her sister Penny Wyant and husband Tom of Las Alamos; her brother Robert Colston, Jr. and wife Pam of Las Cruces: and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Cowboys for Cancer Research at P.O. Box 202, Dona Ana, NM, 88032.

My condolences to Jo's family, that God would bring you peace and comfort as you mourn, and joy as you celebrate her earthly life and eternal life. My name is Tom Gutierrez of Mesa, AZ. I was the Regional Underwriting Director for Farm Bureau in 2002 - 2007, and for a few years I traveled to Las Cruces frequently. In those visits I got to know Jo, seeing her faith in action via her gentleness, respect and love. I will keep you in my prayers.

Bill, so sorry to hear of Jo's passing. She was such a joy to help with picking out glasses when I was working with Jeff Bowers. You use to call me mean. You were very blessed to have had her in your life. God Bless.

I worked many years with Jo and have missed her since she retired from Farm Bureau. She was a good friend and coworker, I will miss her very much. She was such a loving, giving person. I know that she is now an Angel watching over all of her family and friends. My prayers and condolences to her family.
