John George Obituary

John Edward "Johnny" George II

Las Cruces - John Edward (Johnny) George II of Anthony, NM died on May 12, 2021 at the age of 74. John was born on February 28, 1947 in Junction City, KS to John and Betty (Koepke) George.

John had a long career in the medical field as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Paramedic and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in both Las Cruces, NM and El Paso, TX. He served as a field supervisor for the City of El Paso EMS. He was also active in Hazmat training and Search and Rescue. He worked as an LPN in the infirmary at a correctional facility. He also taught first aid and CPR for the American Red Cross and local fire departments.

John was involved in his community of Anthony, NM and always had time to help a friend. He was a lay servant for the Anthony United Methodist Church and an active member of the church Administrative Council.

John was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed taking family and friends on camping and hiking trips to share his love of the Gila National Forest/Wilderness. He always led the songs and stories around the campfire in the evening. A camping trip was not complete without the proper initiation of the newbie!

John is preceded in death by his parents, John and Betty (Koepke) George and his brother Charles E. George.

John is survived by his daughter Trudy J. George and her husband David Skatzes and their two children - Maggy and Mackenzie - all of Lyons, KS; his daughter Janelle E. George-Luck and her wife Melody and their three children - Hailey, Dalton and Johnathan - all of Las Cruces, NM; his son Stewart E. George and his wife Heather and their four children - Tarrisa, Taylor, Tausha and Traven - all of Lyons, KS; his former wife and friend Verlaine Stewart of El Paso, Tx; his brother Philip (Cecilia) George of Las Cruces, NM; his brother Leland (Patsy) George of Columbia, SC; his sister Jeanette Austin of Las Cruces, NM, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews, four great grandchildren and many friends.

Cremation has been entrusted to Getz Funeral Home, 1410 E. Bowman Ave, Las Cruces, NM 88001.
