There are so few of the genuine Lincoln born storytellers left to remind us of life in Lincoln during the 1880s or even old Lincoln after the turn of the last century. Thank you Gallegos Family for sharing Joe with us.

The Day God Called You Home
The million times I needed you,
The million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you,
You never would have died.
In life I loved you dearly,
In death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place.
No one else could ever fill.
It broke my heart to lose you,
But you did not go alone.
Part of me went with you,
The day that GOD called you home.
With much love. Our prayers are with the family.

Joe, was one of my fathers best friends, he was always so kind and patient. I loved to go hunting with my dad, Joe, Bobby, Ernie and the boys. I remember the first year that I hunted in Lincoln. We had been out in the cold all day long, and we didn’t see a darn thing. Orlando and I were bumbed. When we got to your grandmas house, I went with Joe to feed the horses. As your dad was feeding the horses this 8 point buck came to the fence and begged me to put him out of his Misary. I asked Joe if it was ok to shoot it. I was afraid to spook the horses. He softly asked me if I was going to shoot it or talk it to death. Consequently I shot it. Joe loaded it into the back of the truck and off we went to your grandmas house. He watched me as I gutted and cleaned everything up. Once that was done he told me to go inside and take grandma the liver and that he would finish. I was the mighty hunter that night. The story that Joe told that night was that I had talked the poor buck it to death, as he chuckled. I am sure that my dad, Joe and Olando are in heaven sitting on a tailgate eatting sardines, crackers and potted meat, while they wait for the Big One.
Joe will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
We will keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
We love you all Polly and Crissie.
