Joshua Allen Obituary

Joshua Marc Allen, 30, of Las Cruces, N.M., was tragically killed in an accident near the Vinton, Texas, exit on Feb. 24, 2014. He was en route to pick up his twin brother at the airport when the accident occurred. Josh graduated from Ephrata High School, Ephrata, Pa. He received his undergraduate degree from Liberty University and two post-graduate degrees, masters of religion and master of divinity, from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary both in Lynchburg, Va. While at Liberty he was a resident assistant. During his seminary years, Josh was the graduate assistant to Dr. Elmer Towns, the co-founder of the university and seminary. In a recent email to the family, Dr. Towns wrote, "I have had dozens of graduate assistants over the years, but Josh was one of my favorites. I shall miss hearing from him, and I shall miss finding out what he could have done in serving the Lord." Josh continued working for Liberty University as an adjunct professor for the School of Religion. Soon after graduating, he moved to Las Cruces, where he became the pastor of Grace Bible Church, a Bible Fellowship denominational church, located at the Bonito Plaza on Missouri Avenue. Josh lovingly shepherded this young fledgling congregation, which more than doubled under his leadership. Josh was a keen and faithful student of the Bible. He was a people person who not only loved people, but enjoyed serving them and would give you the shirt off his back. He was a leader among men, often with those old enough to be his dad. He had a compassionate heart. He loved his congregation and they dearly loved him. Joshua comes from "good stock," continuing the "family business," which has included a dozen ministers. "Josh was driven that people would know the Jesus he came to love and serve," The Rev. Dan Allen, Josh's father said. "His message was the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That God sent His Son into this world because of our sin. That Jesus died on the cross taking the sins of the world upon Him and rose victoriously the third day, cementing the fact that He had conquered death, sin and Satan. And finally, that the only way one can have their sins forgiven is if they receive the gift of eternal life. This can be done by placing one's faith and trust in Jesus Christ. For more information about how you can know for sure that when you die you will go to Heaven, please contact the church that Josh pastored - Grace Bible Church, 575-532-1234, or another church which preaches the Gospel." Josh was well known and loved throughout Las Cruces, as evidenced by the outpouring of love from friends, neighbors and local businesses. Condolences have poured in from throughout the nation and prayers have been offered internationally. He was known for his sense of humor and down to earth personality. He was emphatic Philadelphia sports fan and often went to games with his family when he was on the east coast or when one of their teams came out west. Josh is survived by his loving wife of four years, Shelley Allen, and their 9-month-old son Josiah Allen, his parents, the Rev. Dr. Daniel and Vonnie Allen, of Hatfield, Pa., two brothers, Matthew and his wife, Marissa Allen, of Lititz, Pa., Jason Allen (his twin) and his wife, Annalise, of Las Cruces, one sister, Melinda (Allen) and her husband, Ron Ogbin, Ephrata, Pa. His grandfathers, the Revs. Russell T. Allen and Vonely Day preceded him to Heaven. He is also survived by uncles and aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Monday, March 3, 2014, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Las Cruces, 106 S. Miranda St., where the memorial service is scheduled for 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made for Shelley and her son, Josiah, at www.powerofhopeministries.org. Entrusted to Baca's Funeral Chapels of Las Cruces and Sunset Crematory. 527-2222 For online condolences logon to www.bacasfuneralchapelslascruces.com.

Dear Allen family, I am so sorry for the pain you are feeling as you go this journey with the passing of Josh.My family attended EBC.before and after the guys were born.I also had twins and my twin boys were in preschool with josh and Jay. That year their teacher, Mrs.Frain, had all boys(7). So as a joke on her birthday Vonnie, myself and other moms dressed them up as girls and we all got a kick out of it. It is a memory I will never forget.my heart hurts for the family and the emptiness you are feeling. love,

Very sorry for your loss, in Psalms 37:10,11 mentions, "Just a little while longer and the wicked will be no more, but the meek will possess the EARTH and they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace." So looking forward to these beautiful promises our loving God has for us. The Allen family be in my thoughts and prayers.

My condolences go out to his wife and all else affected by this tragedy. I unfortunely did not know Josh in his adult life but I had the pleasure of being his babysitter and neighbor when he was growing up. My heart broke when I was told about the accident!!! Many prayers for Shelly and for the strength to get through another day!! He is always with you in spirit and in the sparkle in your sons eyes when he looks at you!

My prayers and heart go out to Shelley and little Josiah, Vonnette and Dan and the rest of the Allen family. I am a long time friend of Vonnette's but didn't have the privilege of knowing Josh on a personal level. Knowing Dan and Vonnette though, I know that he grew up to be an amazing young man. Praying for peace from the Prince of Peace, Jesus; strength and beautiful memories for the days ahead.

Praying Josh's family and friends.
I had the privilege of working with Josh for a short amount of time at LU. He was full life, jokes, laughter, and most of all - Christ. He looked forward to spreading God's Word and sharing His faith. He could go from a clever joke to a serious theological debate.

Josh will be missed. The impact that he had for God's Kingdom is remarkable.

We do not always understand God's timing in our lives. But know that He works ALL things to our good and His Glory. He never leaves our side. He has given you renewed strength to move forward in the days which follow and raise Josiah. A child who is a blessing to you in this time of need. Ask. Believe. Receive. God watches over your Heart. My condolences to Shelley, Josiah, and all of Joshua's family.

I met Pastor Josh about 4 years ago maybe going on 5 years. Seems like only yesterday. I was a very lost soul at that time and when Dr. Brown and Ms. Ruth Brown introduced me to Pastor Josh and Grace Bible Church that was the beginning of my Christian life. Pastor Josh knew where I was coming from and what I needed in my life and that was getting know Jesus Christ and start living the right way - following the words of Jesus. After Pastor Josh and Ms. Shelley got married they took me under their wing and taught me so much and had so much love, patience, with me. Seeing the hunger that I had to learn and be a better person. I was so Blessed to have had Pastor Josh and Ms. Shelley show me the right path. I thank God everyday of life. This is not goodbye but until we see eachother again in God's paradise. Thank you for your love and teachings.

i remember when Pastor Josh took time out of his busy day to come over to my house and read sections of the bible with me. He understood that my job at that time caused me to work on Sundays & was kind & generous to come over & share Gods word with my daughter & i. This was around 3 1/2 yrs ago but I still read Gods word from the bible he gave me that day. May u walk with the angels & the Lord Almighty in the heavens above. rest in peace Pastor Josh.
