Micaela Galvan

Micaela Barraza Galvan gently took our Lord's hand on Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, at Mesilla Valley Hospice-La Posada surrounded by her loving family. Micaela was born to Juanita and Manuel Barraza and recently celebrated her 100th birthday on Sept. 29, 2015 born in Mesilla, she helped her parents raise her brothers and sisters as well as worked at the "Rancho."

Micaela spent her long life being "Mom" and enjoying her family. Because of her delicious tortillas, we were blessed to make many friends around the neighborhood. She loved working the election polls and traveling in her younger years. She saw 18 U.S. presidents as well as countless of inventions in her lifetime; from the cotton picker to the latest technology in internet and computer capabilities. She was a congregant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral until she was unable to attend. Our special thanks to Ruth Laguna who brought Holy Communion to Mom every week and to Delphina Soto for her faithfulness in visiting her frequently.

She is survived by her son, Johnny Galvan III (Anita), and daughters, Josie Baldonado, Lydia Evaro (Edward), and Michaele Galvan; grandchildren, Lisa Jenkins (Chuck), Priscilla Baldonado, Robin Edward Evaro, Debbie Sanchez (Lencho), Yvonne Galvan, Johnny Galvan IV (Maria), Joeal Bustamante (Laura), and Michelle Silva (Joseph); great-grandchildren; Cameron Evaro, Laylah Evaro, Elijah Evaro, Ambryelle Evaro, Ernest Lucero, Destiny Michaele Saldana, Loren Olivia Sanchez, Adrianna Sanchez, Lawrence Sanchez II, Vanessa Loya, Lauren Duran, Jocelyn Rivera, Sophie Castaneda, Haylie Galvan, Jordan Galvan, Joseph Bustamante, Xavier Bustamante, Jayden Silva, and Marc Silva; great-great grandchildren, Dante Saldana Sellers and Kiara Sanchez as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Other survivors, include her sister, Cuca Medina, who is the last of the Barraza legacy. Micaela was preceded in death by her husband, Juan E. Galvan; a granddaughter, Frances Marie 'Frannie' Galvan; six brothers, Luis, Alejandro, Placido, Roberto, Johnny and Manuel Barraza Jr.; two sisters, Lilly Barraza and Pauline Varela.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015 in Baca's Funeral Chapels, 300 E. Boutz Road where the prayer vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, 2015 in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, 1240 S. Espina St. The rite of committal and interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho Ave., where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband.

Serving as casket bearers will be Johnny Galvan Ill, Johnny Galvan IV, Edward Evaro, Robin Evaro, Chuck Jenkins, Joeal Bustamante, and Christopher Evaro.

The family would like to express their heartfelt love and appreciation to Mom's special niece, Roberta Barraza and our Tia Cuca who were with our family throughout these dark days. Also to the wonderful staff at Mesilla Valley Hospice-La Posada for the amazing care, love and respect they gave to our Mother.
