Michael Cadena Obituary

As too many New Mexicans have, we are moving through shock and grief in processing our father's death from COVID-19. "Pa", as we called him, was dearly loved and we are grateful for the profound ways he shaped our lives and raised us with gentle, light-hearted energy and deep belief in our potential. He really did live for each day-- while coaching PE, out on the soccer fields, on the wrestling mat or fighting to preserve his cherished Mesilla at Town Hall meetings. We look forward to celebrating his life at our family home when we can safely do so on the other side of this devastating virus. Micaela, Mireya, Denicia, and his four grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and did anything to make him laugh.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The Special Olympics of New Mexico would be appreciated; Michael so enjoyed coaching these incredible athletes: sonm.org , OR by mail at Special Olympics of New Mexico, 6600 Palomas Ave NE # 207, Albuquerque, NM 87109.

I realize this is several months late, but I'm living out of town now and just found out about Mayor Cadena's passing. I'm deeply saddened to find this out. He was a good kind man, and loyal friend. He was supportive of me during a difficult time, and I will never forget that. I am so sorry that his family lost him and I'm sure you are still grieving. My prayers are with you.
