Richard Bacon Obituary

Richard F. "Dick" Bacon, Sr., 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Las Cruces, New Mexico on Thursday morning the 31st of May, 2007. Dick was born on January 26, 1927 in Boston, Massachusetts to Teresa and Henry Bacon.
Dick enlisted in the Navy in September 1944 when he was 17 years old. Dick served for numerous years as a Seabee electrician in the Navy. After more than 23 years in the service, Dick retired as a Master Sergeant. Dick worked as a union electrician with EBEW until retirement in 1989. After retiring, Dick lived in a houseboat in the San Francisco Bay Area for two years. He decided he wanted to see the country, so he bought an RV and traveled all around to various states meeting so many people. It was during this travel that Dick got involved with the Habitat for Humanity in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He met Mary Haddrill in Las Cruces at a dance in 1995. Dick and Mary were married in Desert Hot Springs, California. They enjoyed traveling in the RV, dancing and just enjoyed life as soul mates.
Dick was extremely outgoing and always brought a smile to those he met. Everyone was drawn to him and he always had a joke to share. He will be remembered as a loving and gentle man. He brought happiness to everyone he met and will be greatly missed.
Dick is survived by his wife, Mary and her children, Larry and Cecilia Haddrill, Dove Flowers, Kevin and Marilyn Haddrill, Sarah and Richard Stegall all of Las Cruces; Dan and Anna Haddrill; Richard and Gleda Haddrill; Connie and Jon Singh of Santa Fe, New Mexico; Aaron Haddrill of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and Elizabeth (Lisa) Haddrill of Fullerton, California and grandchildren Jessica Haddrill, Luke and Shane Bowden, Christopher Haddrill and Heather Williams, Jeffrey Haddrill and Jonathan Singh. Dick is also survived by his children, Anne Mullin of Palo Alto, California; Patricia Towne (Matthew) of Richland, Washington; Richard Bacon, Jr., of Woodland, California, and Janice Needham of Kennewick, Washington; and three grandchildren and one great-grandson.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.
The family wishes to offer heartfelt gratitude to the family members, Ambercare and Mesilla Valley Hospice for their loving care and compassion.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.  To express condolences, please visit GrahamMortuary.com.
