Santiago Burciaga Jr. Obituary

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, uncle and friend, Santiago E. Burciaga Jr., age 84, of Anthony. Santiago went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 24, 1930, in La Union, NM, to Santiago Sr. and Anastacia E. Burciaga. "Mr. B", as he was fondly known, retired from the Gadsden Independent School District (GISD) in 1992 where he was the head custodian at La Union Elementary for 27 years. In 1982 he was named the GISD Employee of the Year, an award he cherished very much and always credited the wonderful teachers, students, parents, administrators and his family for helping him earn such honors. Mr. B always had a story to tell about the many friends, family and colleagues he shared life with. Those left to mourn his passing include two sons, Santiago "Jimmy" Burciaga and wife, Maria Luz of Anthony and Rudy Burciaga and wife, Dora of Mesquite; three daughters, Sophia Nuñez and husband, Arturo of Anthony, Patsy Socorro Padilla and husband, Israel of Santa Teresa and Rosa Murillo and husband, Rogelio of Vinton, TX. Other survivors include 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Socorro M. Burciaga, who he lovingly referred to as his "Corazon de Melón", father, Santiago Burciaga, Sr., mother, Anastacia E. Burciaga, his brother, Andres Burciaga, Sr. and granddaughter, Marisela Murillo-Hernandez. Visitation for Mr. Burciaga will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2014, in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 224 Lincoln Street, in Anthony where the prayer vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. Family and friends will join together to celebrate the holy Mass of Resurrection at 10 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2014, in the same church with the Reverend Enrique Lopez-Escalera, celebrant. The rite of committal and interment will follow in the Anthony Catholic Cemetery where he will be lay to rest alongside his loving wife. Serving as casket bearers will be Israel Padilla, Armando R. Burciaga, Arturo Nuñez Sr., Nikki B. Enriquez, Arturo Nuñez Jr. and Bryan Santiago G. Burciaga. The Burciaga Family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels, 300 E. God looked around His garden
And found an empty place.
He then looked down upon the earth
And saw your tired face.
He put His arms around you
And lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful
He always takes the best.
He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb,
So He closed your weary eyelids
And whispered "Peace be thine."
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn't go alone,
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. ... Psalm 23:1-6

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. - 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Timothy 1:5

The end of the commandment is charity. The purpose of "the charge" (Revised Version) entrusted to you is love. See 1Ti 1:3. You must show these teachers that instead of teaching foolish fables they must inculcate love. The three things essential to a pure and holy love are: (1) A pure heart; (2) a good conscience; and (3) sincere faith.

May 28, 2014

But the effect of the order is love coming from a clean heart, and a knowledge of what is right, and true faith:
