Floyd Lampkins

RICHLANDS, Va. – Mr. Floyd Carson Lampkins, age 58, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Castlewood and was the son of the late Robert G. and Liza Evelyne Boothe Lampkins, both former Russell County natives. He was a former sergeant for Cumberland Security at Clinch Valley Medical Center and a former mechanic. He was a member of New Life Ministries at Claypool Hill and was a lifelong resident of the Richlands area.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Survivors are his wife, Karen Ruth Markham Lampkins; daughter, Gina Lampkins of Goochland, Va.; sons, Floyd Jason Lampkins of Saltville and Walter Brian Lampkins of Marion; stepchildren, Winston Brian Hess of the home and April Dawn Hess Harper and husband Walter of Medina, Ohio; sisters, Lena Dunn of Richmond, Virginia Bonnie Tilman of Powhatan, Va., Betty Joe Hartsock and husband Larry of Talbott, Tenn., and Bernice Arnold of Lenoir, N.C.; brother, Clarence "Cut Joe" Lampkins of Abingdon; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mose and Ruth Markham of Richlands; seven grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and pets, Yodi, Brownie, Boomer and Minnie.
Funeral services for Floyd Lampkins will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at New Life Ministries at Claypool Hill, with the Rev. David Osborne and the Rev. Robert Osborne officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill.
Pallbearers will be men of New Life Ministries. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. R. Titha, staff of Preferred Hospice and staff of Clinch Valley Medical Center.
The family will receive friends at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands on Thursday after 6 p.m. and two hours prior to the service on Friday at New Life Ministries. Memorial contributions may be made to Preferred Hospice, 2629 Front St., Richlands, VA 24641.
