James Gates Obituary

Annville
James A. Gates, 76, died Friday, January 27, 2017 in the Wellspan Good Samaritan Hospital. He was the loving husband of Suzanne (Dotter) Gates.
Born in Lebanon on November 17, 1940, he was the son of the late George W. and Etta M. (DeWalt) Gates. James attended Lebanon High School and went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Science from Penn State University. After retiring as a salesman, he enjoyed his second home in Delaware, trains and biking.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, James S. Gates, husband of JoLynn of Lebanon; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Baker, wife of Matthew of Lebanon; grandchildren, Amanda Vaccarella, Sarah Gates, James Gates, Katelyn Baker, Benjamin Baker and Sam Baker; and great-grandchildren, Isabella and Sophia Sterner and Giovanni Vaccarella. He was preceded in death by a son, Andrew S. Gates; and two brothers, Richard D. and G. Thomas Gates.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 22 S. 6th Street, Lebanon, PA 17042. There will be a visitation held one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Grand View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions in James' memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, JDRF 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004.
