Charles Dougherty Obituary
Charles H. "Chuck" Dougherty, 85, the kindest man known to us, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 5, 2025.
Chuck was born in Seminole, on September 29, 1939. He was a son of Henry and Rose (Bonomini) Dougherty. From his first to his last day, he treated everyone with heartfelt respect and love.
He graduated from Redbank High School in 1957.
He received a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering in 1961 from Gannon University, where he was an active member of ROTC. Upon graduation, he immediately began his service as a second lieutenant in the United States Army at various posts in the United States and then in Vietnam. In 1971, he earned his master's degree in Economics, also from Gannon University.
Chuck enjoyed his work as an engineer and manager at Elgin Electronics for over 30 years, where he was beloved by his co-workers and employees. Chuck worked for 10 more years at General Electric before joining his wife in retirement. From there on, he spent his time golfing with his buddies, going to hunting camp, playing cards, reading, hosting family gatherings and driving around with loved ones in search of Erie's best milkshake.
He was known for his special Sunday brunches and making sure everyone had enough to eat. He was a reliably wonderful listener and loyal friend. His gentle, non-judgmental, and supportive care toward his kids, grandkids and everyone around him served as a model for all of us.
Chuck was married to his college sweetheart Barbara Jasinski for 63 years. She preceded him in death on February 22, 2024.
Survivors include siblings, Linda Harding and husband, Earl, and James Dougherty and wife, Sheila; children, Chip Dougherty and wife, Kathryn, Jennifer Held, Michael Dougherty and wife, Kathleen, Anne Smith and husband, Richard; grandchildren, Lauren Philips and husband, Liam, Delaney Held, R.V. His unparalleled personality drew everyone in, forming many treasured, life-long friendships with neighbors, and at every stage of his education, and military and professional career.
He was an active leader in his community, serving on parish council at both St. Cyprian in Waterford and then at Our Lady of Peace in Erie.
