Phyllis Lorraine Talbert

1922 - 2023

Phyllis Lorraine Talbert, 101, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 28, 2023, in Noblesville, Ind.

Born January 21, 1922 in Renton, she was the daughter of Clair and Jessie Hartzell.

At 18 she moved to Kokomo, Ind., where she met her future husband, Max E. Talbert. They were married in August 1947.

Phyllis enjoyed cooking, gardening and excelled at painting, but most of all she loved dancing and music.

She was well known for being the young girl who posed with "Ben," the famous Bull in Kokomo, Ind., in a World War II photograph that has traveled around the world.

Phyllis worked at Haynes Stellite in Kokomo, Ind., during World War II, making airplane parts. She later worked at Delco Radio, in Kokomo, for many years, retiring in 1987.

She resided in Bloomington, Ind. and Lake Park, Fla. after retirement.

Of all her accomplishments in this life, her beaming smile, tenderness of heart and sweetest spirit will be most remembered.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Max E. Talbert; brothers, Clair Hartzell Jr. and Eugene Hartzell; sisters, Ruth Magealson and Helen McFerran; a sister-in-law, Natalie Talbert Smith; her daughters, Kimberly P. Talbert and Jacqueline Talbert; grandson, Sean Owens; granddaughter, Liana Owens; great-grandchildren, Mary, Ava, Liam and Obadiah; a great-great-granddaughter, Odyssey; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, with visitation between 10 a.m. to noon.

A funeral service will be held at noon, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, located at 414 W. Jefferson Street in Kokomo, Ind.

Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Greentown, Ind.
