Christopher Freeman Obituary

Marshall, WI - What did the dad squirrel say to his family? Acorn-y joke.

Christopher B. Freeman, 59, formerly of Marshall, WI passed away on July 23, 2024, unexpectedly at home.

Chris was born on September 23, 1964, to Barb (Elwood) and Jim Freeman of Madison, WI. He is survived by his wife Michelle of Marshall, daughter Cayla (Garrett) Nale of Marshall, son Noah Freeman of Cottage Grove, special son Julian at home, step-daughter Courtney Weerda (fiancé Ed) of Madison, step-daughter Taylor Weerda (Will) of Cary, North Carolina, grandchildren Graham Nale and Cyrus Senn, parents Jim and Barb Freeman of Madison, brother Jeff (DeDe) Freeman of Waunakee, sister Anne (Brian) Ambrosius of Beaver Dam, sister Beth Freeman (Mike Kimm) of Madison, father and mother-in-law Steve (Jeannette) Hornung of Milton, brother-in-law Shane (Emily) Hornung of Janesville, sister-in-law Amanda Hornung of Madison, brother-in-law Chad (Jenny) Hornung of Janesville, nephew Riley Freeman (fiancé Ashley) of Chicago, niece Erin Freeman of New York City, niece/goddaughter Paige Ambrosius of Port Washington, niece Morgan Ambrosius (fiancé John) of Cottage Grove, MN, nephew Theo Ambrosius (Tricia) of New London, nephews Evan Hornung & Avery Hornung of Janesville, nieces Lily Hornung, Zoey Hornung and Cali Hornung of Janesville, aunt Evonne Freeman of Iowa City, and cousins Katie (Josh) Wheeler, Brad (Abby) Freeman and Michelle (Ryan) Bonjour.

Chris earned his Secondary Education degree from UW-LaCrosse and later went back for his Special Education certificate. He was previously a Special Education Teacher at Marshall High School, where he also coached softball and volleyball. He then went on to be a Cross Categorical Teacher in Sun Prairie. Chris was infamous for his bad jokes and puns and flare for fashion (colorful shirts and ugly shoes). He was known to have a stubborn streak and was an inspiration to everyone around him, especially his students, refusing to give up on them no matter the struggle and continuing those relationships far beyond the school year. Chris had a quick wit and sharp sense of humor that was so uniquely his own. He could always make you laugh, and sometimes annoy you at the same time. Words cannot possibly sum up the life of such an amazing person.

In April of this year, Chris became honored and beyond excited when he became a grandfather to Graham Ender Nale. He lived for his daily Graham updates and pictures.

Chris was preceded in death by his grandparents Floyd and Marcella Freeman, Rex and Dorothea Elwood, uncle Robert Freeman, aunt Patti Hucka and cousin Greg Hucka.

Our loss is immeasurable, he will be missed and forever remembered. There will be a Celebration of Life honoring Chris on Sunday, July 28th, at Marshall High School, Marshall, WI from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm. At 12:30 pm the family will begin an open mic story telling time. He will be laid to rest privately with family members. APFEL EHLERT FUNERAL HOME, Edgerton is assisting the family.
