Janet Gayle Barnett, 79, of Vandalia, died peacefully Friday, November 7, 2025 in the comfort of her family's presence. Her life began January 12, 1946 in Dowagiac, Michigan one of four children born to Richard and Betty Cox. She married Brad Barnett October 8, 1966 in Cassopolis, Michigan. Janet cherished her family. She was a mischievous person and enjoyed the outdoors. Having grown up on a farm, she would gladly do chores or spend time with her father outside. She had a horse and even tried to take it into the house. Janet was a bus driver for Marcellus Public Schools for twenty-four years. She was very proud of the children she drove over the years. She enjoyed quilting and gardening. She always had a love for animals. There were always dogs or cats around and she even raised a racoon. She enjoyed reading, especially pioneer stories. Janet never met a stranger. She was a social, personable, and dependable friend. Janet will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her husband of fifty-nine years, Brad Barnett of Vandalia; daughter, Kim (Eric) Hoopes of Jones; sons, Chris Barnett of Vandalia, Gary (Rhonda) Barnett of Vandalia; nine grandchildren, Spencer, Stacey, Kristen, Ambrose, Sky, Lane, Hunter, Ellie, Leah; two great grandchildren, Malachi, Rowan; sister, Mary Nelson of Battle Creek; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Tom Cox, and Mike Cox. Family and friends will gather Thursday, November 13, 2025 from 11:00 am until time of service at 12:30 pm in Wakelee Bible Church, 15921 Dutch Settlement Street, Marcellus. Mrs. Barnett will be laid to rest in Little Fish Lake Cemetery. The family prefers contributions in memory of Janet be made to Wakelee Bible Church, Post Office Box 35, Marcellus, Michigan 49067.
