Christopher Dinger

Christopher Benson Dinger, 74, of 929 Barland St., Eau Claire, WI, died suddenly Monday evening, November 25. He did not feel well, called 911, and walked down his driveway to the ambulance. The emergency team took him to Mayo/Luther Hospital, where he passed away shortly thereafter from an aortic dissection.

Chris was born in Eau Claire on December 24, 1949, to Julius John and Frances St. Clair Dinger. He attended Campus School and graduated from Memorial High School in 1968.

Chris was a member of the Memorial Ski Team and went on to join the University of Montana Ski Team. Chris had a wide variety of interests and hobbies. While in Montana, he cruised timer, built a log cabin from trees he cut down and debarked, tended bar, and drove a garbage truck. He was a jack of all trades. No job was too large or too small for him, as long as he had enough free time to enjoy outdoor activities.

Chris returned to Eau Claire in the late 1970s. He worked in road construction, painted houses, and was the maintenance man for hundreds of apartments in the Eau Claire area. He loved working with his hands, helping people, and making their ideas become a reality. In short, Chris was a hard worker!

On his days off, you could find him hunting, fishing, skiing (water or snow), pontooning, snowmobiling, and hanging out with his many friends. He also enjoyed watching the Milwaukee Brewers and Bucks. Chris had five great loves. First and foremost was his beloved, Barb Holm of Elk Mound, WI. The other four were maintaining the family cabin on Hurd Lake (which was his home away from home), his numerous pets, the 1953 Desoto that he totally restored with original parts, and the Green Bay Packers.

Chris is survived by his sister, Ann Dickinson of Menlo Park, CA; his brother, John Dinger of Oak Harbor, WA; his niece, Meghan Dinger Harris of Uxbridge, MA; three nephews, Eric Dinger of Roseburg, OR, Geoffrey Dickinson of Lake Stevens, WA, and Derek Dickinson of Brooklyn, NY; five grandnephews; and two grandnieces.

He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Chris was predeceased by his parents and his younger brother Karl Dinger.

A celebration of life service may be held during the spring or summer of 2025. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral and Cremation Services assisted the family.
