David Spooner Obituary

David A. Spooner

February 28, 1939 - March 28, 2026

I, David Allen Spooner, raced into the world on February 28, 1939, the son of Madlyn Kaiser and Allen Spooner; I passed the finish line on March 28, 2026, with the excellent support of Interim Hospice.

My many laps included graduation from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1957 with almost perfect attendance. My record was ruined when the classmate who recorded attendance was ill and unable to mark the absent me as present. My first job was at a gas station/garage which set me on my life's path which would include building custom motorcycles, cars and racing. After graduation I relocated to Southern California to pursue these interests. I married Sharon Jacobson in 1959 and became a father to Glen, Joe, and Jill.

Returning to Wisconsin in 1970 I worked for several local firms in the mechanical field. Sharon and I divorced in 1991. I have had many jobs but the significant one occurred in 1994; I went to work at the Rutledge Home where I had the good fortune to meet Mary Beth McLaughlin. Although I left that job, we got reacquainted at a disaster preparedness meeting; it was no negative omen. We married in 2000 and were rewarded with 26 years of a happy, joyful and adventure-filled marriage. We took long trips on motorcycles with and without a sidecar. Although our travels included multiple breakdowns, I was able to do many roadside repairs except when I didn't have the right tools. (We met many really nice people who rescued us).

I was preceded in death by my parents and my step-father, Harold Johnson. I am survived by my wife, Mary Beth; my children: Glen; Joseph (Kayanna), their children, David (Stefanie), Max (Kian), Sam, Isabelle, Lily; and Jill Lauro (Tom) and 3 great grandchildren; my step-children, Sean O' Connell and daughter Nataya Wruck; Megan O'Connell; Neal (Monica) O'Connell, their children, Riley, Ian, and Quinn; my sister, Donna Thayer (Stanley); sister-in law, Patti Mrozinski; brother-in-law, Russ Spry; nieces and nephews, and current beloved cat, Butterball.

I retired in 2005 and enjoyed the solitude of my home and the comfort of my wife.

If you wish, please consider memorial donations to the Mary Beth and David A. Spooner Fund through the Community Foundation of Chippewa Falls.
