Gary Davey Obituary

Gary Davey

July 2, 1939 - September 17, 2025

Gary Leigh Davey fell asleep in death on September 17, 2025, at the age of 86, with loving family and friends by his side.

Born on July 2, 1939, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Sam and Velda Davey, Gary spent his early years at Riverview Elementary Country School, then later graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1957. Then, on November 13, 1958, he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Sandra Dreke. Together, they raised three sons, Jeff, Jim and Shawn at their home along the banks of the lower Chippewa River, remaining united in marriage for 66 years.

Embarking on a career that lasted 20 years, Gary became a respected banker. Yet, it was his love for building that brought him the greatest joy, where his integrity and commitment to helping others achieve their dreams were evident. His meticulous nature led him to become a skilled carpenter and master builder, a vocation through which he crafted not only structures but also lasting relationships within the community.

As one of Jehovah's Witnesses for the past 45 years, Gary's faith and devotion to his Creator were the cornerstone of his life. He readily shared his beliefs and bible-based hope with any who would listen, as well as generously contributing his time and talents to help build many Kingdom Halls throughout Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan. It's hard to say how many, but he loved doing each one!

Gary spent most of his life on the banks of the Chippewa River, hunting, fishing, and watching with joy all the creatures and wildlife that continually roamed his beautiful scenic neighborhood. As an avid outdoorsman, he shared and instilled his love of hunting and fishing in his sons and grandchildren, enjoying a life full of adventure on the river and in the woods, creating memories to be cherished forever. In particular, he will be fondly remembered for his delicious fish fry's that were enjoyed by so many.

Gary will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Sandra Davey, brother Peter, two sons, Jim (Theresa), Shawn (Debra) Davey, as well as grandchildren Mellissa, Ryan, Leagh (Nick) Christensen, Ellyanna (Harrison) Kimball, and Benjamin Davey, as well as two great-grandchildren.

Gary was preceded in death by his father Samuel, mother Velda, brother Scott, and his son Jeffrey.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses located at 3400 Horlacher Ln, Eau Claire, WI. Friends and family may also visit one hour prior.
