Gerald "Jerry" H. Rehberg, age 93, of Eau Claire, died on Monday, April 14, surrounded by family at Caretta Senior Living Memory Care in Eau Claire.
Gerald was born July 3, 1931, to the late Herman and Bertha (Haft) Rehberg in Eau Claire. He graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1950. During the Korean War, the U.S. Army drafted and stationed Jerry in Japan for two years. He achieved the rank of Corporal and received letters of commendation for his meritorious manner and most commendable service along with ribbons and a medal. He continued his service for an additional six years in the Army Reserves.
On April 7, 1962, he was united in marriage to Virginia Berger Johnson and instantly became a loving father of five children.
Jerry was employed at the YMCA as aquatic director, basketball and volleyball coach prior to joining the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier for 38 years. He was active in the NALC #728 for over 50 years and the Postal Credit Union. Jerry was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers. He also enjoyed gardening, walking his dogs, and volunteering at the American Legion in Eau Claire.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia; daughters, Julie (Rodney) Swenson, Joan Olson, Gail (Nolan) Nelsestuen, and Amy (David) Dittner; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his daughter, Kay Rehberg Howard; sons, Daniel (Sandy) Johnson and Paul Johnson; and son-in-law, Donavan Olson.
A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, April 26 at Evergreen Funeral Home (off Golf Road one block east of Hwy. 93). Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service on Saturday. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post 53.
Private interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire at a later date. Evergreen Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
