Gregory "Greg" Mark Stoeger passed away peacefully on April 14 in his home in Eau Claire, WI at the age of 80. He spent his final days in home hospice care, surrounded by the love and support of his closest friends, family, and incredible caregivers from the Mayo Clinic.
Greg was born to Mark and Rosemary Stoeger in Manitowoc, WI on November 10, 1944. His most cherished childhood memories include the time he spent on his grandfather's farm in Manitowoc where he developed a love of horses. He later attended Xavier Academy and Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH, where through Jesuit instruction, he developed a deep lifelong love for the institution.
After graduating from college, Greg joined the Social Security Administration (SSA) and later enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served honorably and ultimately returned to the SSA where he worked in service to the community until his retirement in 1996. During this time, he also owned and operated a small dairy farm in the town of Hamburg, WI, which always held a special place in his heart.
After his retirement from the SSA, he embarked on a new business venture with his brother Bill. The brothers jointly owned and operated Stanley Caseworks and Stanley-Boyd Lumber from 1997-2015, creating lasting memories and making a positive impact on the community.
Greg had a great passion for life. He was an excellent artist in his youth and an avid reader; he adored animals, exercising rigorously, fishing, and landscaping. He could often be found outdoors altering the landscaping of his home in Eau Claire. He was also a BMW enthusiast, avid Packers fan, amateur stock trader, and enjoyed meeting his friends for early morning coffee.
Overwhelmingly, what Greg loved most was his family.
Greg is survived by his spouse, Peggy; his children, Michael, Christopher (Lisa), Mark (Cassie), Ben, and Kathryn (Don); and nine grandchildren; also by his brother, Bill; sister, Carol Ann; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends (including his dog, Max).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Rosemary Stoeger; his brother, James; and his beloved labrador, Onyx.
Greg will especially be remembered for his sharp humor, quick and dry wit, and ability to converse openly with anyone, anytime.
