Laurie Sailer
September 27, 1932 - June 22, 2025
Laurie Venus Sailer (nee Winz) September 27, 1932 - June 22, 2025.
Laurie Sailer, 92, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 22, 2025, at Dove South Healthcare. Laurie was born on September 27, 1932, to Marcus and Anna Winz in Lisle, Illinois.
Laurie grew up in Illinois the youngest of seven children including three brothers (Herman, Marc, Rene) and three sisters (Jeanne, Lily, Violet). Her parents emigrated from Alsace Lorraine, France, post war I, and she and her sisters Lily and Violet were born in America as first-generation Americans. She attended Riverside Brookfield High School in Riverside, IL, and then Monmouth College (Kappa Delta Sorority), Monmouth, IL. She left her academic pursuits for marriage and the adventure of living around the globe with her husband's Army career including US postings plus Heidelberg, Germany, Yokosuka, Japan, Maisieres, Belgium (SHAPE), and finally back stateside in 1971. With multiple moves, Laurie always made every house a home, filled the holidays with magic and baked goods, and revelled in the glow of her children's successes and growing families.
During her 50 years in Eau Claire, Wis., Laurie made her forever home in the community. She returned to university to complete her degree at UWEC in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. Her career included various roles including social worker, sales and as a substitute teacher until retirement. In retirement she enjoyed travelling and was an especially enthusiastic bridge player, avid community volunteer, and dedicated water aerobics attendee. She was never shy of an opinion and never met a chocolate she didn't like.
Laurie is survived by five children, Francis J. (Robin) Sailer, Vienna, VA, Stephen Sailer (Paula) Santa Barbara, CA, Bill Sailer (Eileen), Eau Claire, WI., Amy Fiss (Scott), Leawood, KS, and Jennifer Sailer (Jonathan), Sydney, Australia, 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by six siblings and a granddaughter.
The Sailer family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks for the exceptional care of the Dove South staff.
