Lorraine Emma Miller, whose spunk, wisdom and zest for life, brought smiles to so many by hosting gatherings at her home, sharing her amazing baked goods and engaging in great conversations with her friends and family, passed away Thursday October 19.
She was born on August 14, 1921, on a small farm northeast of Bloomer, WI to Jake and Pauline Buchner.
Raised in the Popple Creek, Colfax area, she graduated from Bloomer High School later graduating from the Chicago College of Commerce. She worked as an accountant and then was promoted to controller at Johnson Printing which then became Johnson Litho Graphics for over 40 years.
She married the love of her life LaVerne Miller on December 27, 1941. They were married 63 years until LaVerne's death in 2004.
She had many hobbies. She was an avid reader, enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, crocheting doilies, knitting wash rags and hot pads, and embroidering towels. Her home was known as The Bakery. Baked goods were ready for anyone that stopped by. You could never simply visit; she would put on a pot of coffee and set the table.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Yaeger; two granddaughters, Raana (Steve) Gatza, Sandy (Mark) Porter; three great-grandsons, Collin (Breanna) Porter, Brennan (Rachel) Porter, and Ryan (fiancé Kristine Sina) Porter; and two great-great granddaughters who were named after her, Emma Curtis Porter and Shayna Lorraine Porter.
