Mark Nacewicz Obituary

Mark Joseph Nacewicz

October 21, 1950 - July 16, 2025

Mark Joseph Nacewicz died on July 16, 2025 at Mayo Luther Hospital in Eau Claire at the age of 74. Despite enduring aggressive successful treatment of his blood cancer, the damage to his heart was too much. He transitioned to comfort care and was surrounded by family and friends during his last days.

Born in Springfield Massachusetts to Edward S. and Lillian (Attardi) Nacewicz, Mark was an identical triplet (the middle one) alongside Stephen and Robert, and an older brother Edward. He grew up in Agawam, MA, loved comics, working on cars with his brothers, and working on the family farm that sold dried flowers. He had a lifelong passion for puzzles and riddles. He graduated from Westfield State College, MA with a degree in mathematics. Mark moved to Eau Claire and retired after 40 plus years after working as an accountant for Cray Research, Honeywell, SGI and TTM Technologies in Chippewa Falls, WI. It was at Cray where he met his lifelong friends Bob Walther (and wife Donna), Jim Plowman, and Nancy Kaeding (and husband Ron). They along with friend Dudley Gilman taught Mark the ways of the Northwoods: fishing, hunting, pot-luck cookouts, card nights, casino trips, beer drinking, Packer games and practical joking while on the clock.

Mark was a dog lover, sharing his life with several special dogs over the years. He also loved camping, hockey, cooking, gardening and throwing the frisbee in the yard. He loved any activity the kids were into, from hacky sack to video games, and he was good at them. Friends of Mark's kids were basically part of the family and knew they were welcome to visit at any time, even after the kids moved away. In the time since his passing, there has been an outpouring of support and gratitude for his kindness and his welcoming home, where he would cook homemade pizza as his Sicilian mother taught him (except with thick crust since becoming "a Midwesterner"). True to his Italian heritage, Mark never held back when he was passionate about something, but most often he was playful and joking. Mark always had a dirty joke or bad pun to share, always reminding us not to take life too seriously. If "Rebel Accountant" is a thing outside of The Onion, it was Mark. He was known for his sense of humor and his welcoming, friendly approach to life. His boisterous laugh will be seriously missed.

Mark wanted a "Celebration of Life" as his remembrance which will take place in September. Donations in his name can be made to either the Humane Association of Eau Claire or Chippewa Falls or to home4healing.org (organization that helps blood cancer patients). Mark also donated blood regularly through most of his life, so a donation in kind would truly honor him.

Mark was a proud father and grandfather of four. He is survived by daughter Carina Nacewicz, and sons Brendon (Jaime & children) and Jeremy (Mariela, Elena & Isabela). Though he was a very private person, we always felt the love he had for the people in his life. We are grateful to have many good memories and we take comfort in the love he gave us. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
