Norman Ratering Obituary
October 15, 1930 - August 24, 2025
Norman James Ratering, age 94 of Eau Claire went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, August 24, 2025.
Norman was born to Ralph and Henrietta Ratering on October 15, 1930. He graduated from Holland High in 1948, from Hope College in 1954, and from Western Theological Seminary in 1961. He married Myra Frens in 1958 and they were blessed with three children in 1959, 1960, and 1961. Norm and Myra were married for 58 years before Myra went home to be with Jesus. He cared for Myra through four cancer surgeries and then alzheimer's. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Norm served congregations in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, and Ontario. His passion and calling was sharing the Good News of Jesus. He officiated at many weddings, baptized many babies, and officiated at many funerals. One highlight was baptizing three of his grandchildren on the same day, one from each of his children. He is survived by his children: Michelle and Jeff Bagford, Camilla and Tim McCalmont, and Steve and Karen Ratering, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He enjoyed reading, watching the Detroit Tigers and Lions, playing Qwirkle, Pepper, and Dominoes, and laughing with friends. He found joy in his last several years crawling on the floor, reading to, and playing with his great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, August 30 at Bethesda Lutheran Brethren Church in Eau Claire. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Words of Hope.
