Richard (Rick) D. Pederson, 78, passed away peacefully on the morning of October 23.
Rick is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathi; his son, Erik (Katie) Pederson; and his two grandchildren, Cormac and Bridget Pederson. He is preceded in death by his son, Brian; brother, Lynn; sister, Sandra Johnson; and parents, Norman and Beatrice Pederson.
Rick graduated from Eau Claire Memorial High School in 1964. He enlisted in the Air Force and served on the fire team as a sergeant from 1966-1970. In 1975, Rick graduated from UW Eau Claire with a degree in business administration, which led him into a long career in financial sales focused on insurance and investments. Rick also served as a long-haul truck driver towards the end of his career, which he loved.
Rick was an amazing dad; he never missed one of Erik's football games and even became a youth bowling instructor so he could coach Brian. As a family, they would take summer fishing and canoeing trips down the Namekago River. Whether he was watching his beloved Packers win or helping Kathi in their gardens, he was always living his life with love and compassion.
Rick very successfully fought dementia for the last 13 years of his life but that didn't prevent him from living life well. During retirement, he and Kathi enjoyed many road trips around the country and shorter jaunts to the Twin Cities to watch his grandkids play sports.
For those fortunate enough to get a hug from Rick, this was his trademark strength through to the end. Strong, loving hugs that never ended were what all of those who were lucky enough to know and love Rick will remember most.
Thank you to the amazing teams at Care Partners of Altoona and Saint Croix Hospice for the exceptional care that was provided to Rick during his last few months.
