Steven Kernan Obituary

Steven John Kernan

February 6, 1954 - May 23, 2025

Steven John Kernan passed away on May 23rd, 2025, in his apartment in Florida. He was born on February 6, 1954, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Richard and Iva Kernan.

He was a very private man and his answer to many questions about what was going on in his life was "If you are writing a book just leave that chapter out" He had many struggles throughout his life and faced them head on. He was never fond of being an employee, so he opened a business on Water Street in Eau Claire.

He worked many jobs starting with a paper route at the age of 11 years. He worked in construction for much of his life and spent some time working for Chicago Northwestern Railroad. Always wanting to be his own boss, he opened a business on Water Street in Eau Claire. He soon tired of living in a cold climate and moved to Florida, getting back into construction and managing rental properties.

He loved being by the water. Before hurricane Ian he had purchased a houseboat to renovate and travel up the eastern coastline and back south through the Mississippi River. His houseboat survived but his health declined.

He is survived by his brothers Richard (Hilma) Kernan, Dennis (Rhonda) Kernan, Terry (Kim) Kernan, and his sisters Suzanne (Breyen) Beranek, Kimberly Adams and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Kernan, mother, Iva (Eckwright) Kernan, Grandparents John & Marie (Ducette) Kernan, and Elmer & Mildred (Weber) Eckwright.

A service to disperse his ashes will be held on September 20, 2025, in Fort Myers Florida. Time and place to be determined.
